Fabricate or otherways acquire two sturdy plywood boxes which can be placed under front and rear leg to raise the D seat to E hgt. Mod E seat hgt is 20” from floor; Mod D seat about 15”. 24” x 12” in plan and 5” high should serve but you could add hgt to taste to get a custom hgt.
Stability and consequently your personal safety should not be a problem unless your exertions are particularly violent but better safe than sorry so you may want to strap, lag or thru-bolt the flat bar of each leg to its riser box.

Re: Will Model E legs fit Model D rower
Jackarabit, thanks for your post but that option has been assessed and discounted due to the fact that I have to take down the rower after use. Also, storage of said boxes would be an issue.
Getting on is easy, getting off not so. My best compromise so far is to have a stool to the side that can offer support on dismounting.
Ideally a solution that offered an increased seat height which was permanently attached to the rower would be best.

Due to advancing sacroiliitis, recently had to change & use a different seat. Purchased an adaptive rower seat, which offers adjustable back support, is well padded, etc. it also sits several inches higher to make entry & exit easier. Wish I didn't need it but going to an adaptive seat was the only way for me to row distance due to wnat looks like will be a chronic issue. Not cheap, may be overkill for you but is comfortable, provides amazing support and does sit higher like you are looking for.
Best,

Re: Will Model E legs fit Model D rower
I’m sure you will have thought of this, but over the last couple of weeks I’ve been following (out of curiosity) a few Concept 2 sales through eBay, and there doesn’t really appear to be a massive difference in what a Model D or Model E sells for. Therefore, one option might be to sell your Model D and replace it with an E? This presumes your Model D is relatively new with either a late version PM4 or PM5 monitor...

Thanks for the replies.
After some major reorganisation of my (junk) spare room, I am in a position now to leave the rower set up all the time. Therefore, the box idea that I discounted earlier is back on the cards.
I'll let you know how I progress.

i got to thinking about the 3/4” x 2”x 22” “feet” of the model D. They are open U or C-channel rather than solid bar and the end caps raise them slightly above the floor. Lagging or bolting them down with too much authority could deform and weaken them and holes in your nice erg are a starting point for corrosion. Plwd cleats screwed and glued to tops of boxes fore and aft of the feet might be preferable to provide stability while preserving stuctural strength of the feet. HTH.

Its interesting that the centre of the rail, the one with the feet and wheels on, doesnt touch the floor. I'm guessing that its deliberate that theres no support directly under the V legs in order to provide a little 'spring' which helps with reducing vibration. I have tested it with bodyweight and the gap remains. Therefore there only needs to be support on the ends of the rail, under the wheels/pads, so I am looking at providing support there without the need to make a support the full 2ft width.

Job done. 2 x 1ft lengths of 6x4 held together with a 26inch length of 6x1 floor planking. Made in H shape, imagine the cross bar of the H being the 26inch. Top covered with 2mm rubber to stop the rower sliding. Solid as a rock.
The other end is just an old wooden box I had lying around but its solid and the same height as the H. Everything was to hand, just stuff I had lying around in the shed.
Works a treat.
Thanks for all input.

Re: Will Model E legs fit Model D rower
The 14 inch height of my Model D seat is quite comfortable. However, it is now a bit higher--for an entirely different reason. I live on the third floor and even though the rower is on a carpet, the neighbors below me said they could sense something through the ceiling when I used it, although it was very minor.
In order to stop that, I tried to raise the rower a bit off the floor. I put a one inch thick very dense closed cell foam rubber pad under the front and rear legs. To support the weight of the rower better, I placed a piece of half inch thick heavy duty gym equipment matting over them. That was quite enough to stop any problems for the people living below me. This had no effect at all on the rower's stability. It was as stable as before. Because the front section is much heavier than the rear and the padding is compressed more, the downward slant of the rail has increased very slightly--but not enough to really notice.
Doing all this caused the rower to be about an inch and a half higher off the floor. Since I use a foam rubber pad on the seat, the overall effect was to raise its height by a couple of inches. Because of this height increase, I now call my rower a Model D Plus.
