Post by bennett24 » September 14th, 2018, 7:03 am

In the market for a Model D and I found one locally listed for $800.

Model D (purchased in 2015) / black / PM5 /10 total hours and 143,438 lifetime meters.

Fair price or should I offer less?

Offer $700. A split the diff counter offer wouldn’t be out of the question for 10hrs. on the clock and available locally which I hope doesn’t mean a drive across Texas to play at Lookee Lou! If you’re made of money as is Ant, buy new with warranty. Completed sales history on ebay is the place to take the temperature of the market, short and medium term, seasonally, by model, age, condition.

I recently sold a D with PM3 and low meters for $650, so seems about $725-$750 would be fair with a PM5, but I agree that it might be worth buying a new one at that price. C2s are kinda like Macs in that they hold their value pretty well (though C2s are more reasonably priced to begin with, IMO).

$500 - only if it has a pm5 - since you could probably sell it for that.

Anything higher depends on condition, what you're willing to pay, and whether you'd rather have a new one.

$800 is way too high though. 650 max.

Earlier this year, I sold a fourteen year old Model D for $475.00. Despite the many meters I put on it, it was in excllent condition. The original shock cord was still in fairly good shape and it should be quite a while before it needs to be replaced. To keep things as fair as possible, I included a new shock cord along with a couple of new top rollers at no added cost. The only repair it needed right away was a new chain and sprocket. And although the face of the PM3 became quite a bit dimmer over the years because the backlight wasn't working very well, it was still functional. However, it should eventually be replaced with the PM5. Including the added cost of the chain mechanism, the buyer purchased a rower in outstanding condition for around $400 less than the cost of a brand new one. And even if he has to purchase a PM5 in the future, I still think he got a real bargain.

From an Aussie perspective:

Last month I bought a second hand 2012 Model D PM3 with 40000m on it for AUD1000
I then bought a new Model D PM5 on special at Rebel Sport for AUD1200 (I wanted the backlight)
I then sold the second hand Model D on eBay for AUD1180 :D

all i can say is... i wish prices were that low here in NZ... a new D with PM5 runs us about $2500
depending on condition and seller expectations second hand cs and ds with PM2s ,3s, s4s range from about $800 up to as new price. even had one selling for twice as new price ($5000.00)

In my neck of the woods, $800 is typically the listed price for a rower in this condition. A few years ago, I paid $650 for a model D PM3.
