ErgData Problem

Post by _PK_ » January 1st, 2018, 3:00 pm

Hi - I've owned an indoor rower with a PM3 for about 4 years and have up until recently used a log card to record and then upload my workouts to my logbook. About a month ago, I purchased a bike erg with a PM5 and figured I might as well use the erg data app with my smart phone.

For the first couple of weeks, everything worked fine -- I would first bike and use wireless to attach to my PM5; then I would disconnect and connect with a cable to my rower's PM3. I would then upload my workouts via sync and all was OK.

Lately, when I upload my workouts to the logbook, my rower workout is categorized as bike erg (as is my bike workout). I then have to edit my rower workout directly in the logbook. I have to the best of my knowledge followed the erg app connect and disconnect instructions precisely.

Any suggestions for how to correct this issue?

Hi

Unfortunately I don't have a BikeErg to help with troubleshooting, but my suggestion would be to report to Concept2 (info@concept2.com). It sounds like a bug that they might not have tested for given how recently the BikeErg was launched, and they didn't anticipate switching between a BikeErg PM5 and an older PM model on an indoor rower.

Have you tried doing it the opposite way around, i.e. row first, see if it logs it as an indoor rower, and then do a bike session to see how it uploads?

It sounds like it used to work for you, but now the logbook has started recording everything as BikeErg. So maybe a change they made on the logbook (server side) which had unintended consequences.

Thanks for the reply Slothful.

Before my workout today, I decided to uninstall and reinstall the ergdata app. After biking, I turned off the wireless on the PM5 and turned off bluetooth on my phone. Then I wired my phone to my rower's PM3. All seemed to be going well until about 15 minutes in when my wife started to exercise on the bike erg. My rowing session was disconnected and the PM5 on the bike went squirrely (started tripping some error codes). I got off the rower and my phone's bluetooth was now back on -- when I turned it off, the PM5 on the bike worked properly again.

I think I'll give Concept2 a call when time permits and in the short term go back to using a logcard on the rower and a USB drive on the bike.

Hi,

i've been using the ErgData for my rowing and ski sessions - what i needed to do is to select the type of workout before i started: Preferences -> Indoor Rower Type -> SkiErg / Indoor Rower.

I do not know if this is the same for the BikeErg thou.

Cheers,
D.

I would expect this to be a known problem from rowing clubs or fitness centers with both rowers and bike ergs? If so, it seems definitely something that C2 should respond to.
