1993/1994 Model C w/PM1 worth $500??

Post by Kittywitch610 » December 27th, 2017, 2:59 pm

I am looking for a used Concept 2 and found one for $500. I found out it is 25 years old and does not log lifetime meters because it has a PM1 display. I feel like the price is too high for a quarter century old machine but I wanted to ask folks here with more experience.

That rower probably isn't worth $100.

It completely depends on the condition of the machine and where you live and what the market is like for used C2 rowers there. You should watch craigslist for equivalents to see what they sell for in your area. A 25 year old C2 will last another 25 years if it is kept in good condition, so a 25 year old C2 can be a perfectly good machine to exercise on (assuming it has been well stored and maintained). On the other hand, a brand new Model D with PM5 is less than twice that price at $900. Citroen is talking about what it is worth to him vs. buying a new one; but he is only one opinion and the market value of something depends on what the market at large will pay. In my area the market value of a Model C in working condition is well above $100. Personally I wouldn't pay $500 either, but that doesn't mean that someone else wouldn't - you need to research to find out.

The PM1 is going to cost another $180 to replace with a PM5.

A model B with a PM1 isn't worth the scrap value.

You mean, it isn't worth it TO YOU. But there are a lot of people to whom a Model B with a PM1 is worth more than $100, at least in my part of the US. As long as something is working, then it doesn't HAVE to be replaced. Plus this is a Model C, not a Model B. The Model B and the Model C were both great machines. You know about supply and demand, right?

I've had my model B with its PM1 for 25 years

Love it to death -- model D's a plenty at my local gym

Still prefer my old workhorse - built like a tank -has always given me more than I can handle

It's dollar value I don't know - not interested in finding out...

Model C with a PM1 says mix and muddle Frankenrower--beware.

It's not really a Frankenrower, it just shows it's at least twenty three years old and hardly worth the scrap value. It certainly isn't worth $500 - not in any universe - about $200 top but it would have to be immaculate.

A rower that old is going to need a good clean out, a new chain, new sprocket, new bungees and for a bit of luxury a new monitor.

If it was a virtually brand new minimally used 23 year old Model C and you aren't interested in the features of a PM5, then it might be worth $500 but I bet you could talk the seller down. Keep in mind that the Model C uses the same flywheel, drive mechanism, return mechanism, seat, etc as a Model D or E, so the rowing experience or feel is very similar. But as said earlier, it's all about use and condition and if it's a heavily used club machine it may not be worth $100. For under $100 you can replace the common wearing components- bungee, chain, sprocket and seat rollers, and if you're handy or have a friend who's handy the work is not that difficult. Some pics of the machine might help.....C2JonW

This thread has been very helpful. The link to the listing is below. I have her down to $350 so far. I would like to get down to $250 but we will see. I still need to see it and test it to be sure it's in good shape.
