Flywheel axle height above seat rail

Post by woodgeek » September 16th, 2017, 5:18 pm

Does anyone know if the flywheel axle on the Model C and D are farther above the seat monorail than the Model B?

I seem to have a harder time keeping the handle from hitting my knees than everyone in the instructional videos. I've already adjusted my foot straps and footrests and my form is good--I videoed myself. Thanks

From the center of the axle to the top of the monorail is 11.5 inches on both B and C machines - I just measured both. The footplate heights relative to the monorail are comparable as well.

Is the handle hitting your knees on the drive? You are opening up with your back too soon, before your legs have extended and are flat.
Is the handle hitting your knees on the recovery? You are dropping your hands too low or are bending your knees too soon, before you have reached the catch position with your upper body.

Post a link to that video you took and you'll get some input from the community here.

Assuming you are clipping your knees on the recovery, you need to get your hands away quickly at the finish before you start to recoil with the seat. If you clear your hands first then hitting your knees would be almost impossible. Old habits die hard but I would guess you are not getting your hands away at the finish and starting your slide and hands forward at the same time. That also can lead to "rowing over a barrel" technique which has no future.
