Is this the least used erg of all time!?
Wow this just popped up on my local classifieds.
I thought it must be due to a new PM being added later on or something but you can see in the pic the age of the monitor.
1567 lifetime meters!!!?
That's less than ten minute total use in 12 years.
Is there any way to fudge this on the PM? Would a reset actually clear out the total lifetime meters?

The tram lines on the rail suggest the KM's are somewhat higher.

That erg most likely either has died batteries or no batteries at all.
EDIT: First time I also were surprised by LTM reset possibility, especially by removing the batteries. Whats the point of LIFETIME meter which can be reset at any time? Dunno![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Puzzle solved?"You can reset the Lifetime Meters on a PM3, PM4 or PM5 by performing a hard factory reset (see below). Depending on the age of the monitor (PM3 or PM4 Firmware Versions less than 300), the Lifetime Meters can also be reset by removing the batteries for more than a few minutes."

Re: Is this the least used erg of all time!?
The meters do seem ridiculously low. But there's a surprising number of machines out there with about a week's worth of meters on 'em. I picked up an old(approx 10 years) "D" for $700 that showed 60k on the PM and was absolutely total cherry. Just no wear anywhere. People buy these things, use 'em a couple of times and that's it. Then they find out the re-sale market is flying high so they drag 'em out for sale. You can thank crossfit for the high re-sale prices.
Re: Is this the least used erg of all time!?
Suppose one way would be to check out the workout dates in the memory history on the monitor... if it so happens they date back to 2005 and total up to that 1567m!! It could be a safe bet it's all legit.

Load latest monitor firmware.aussieluke wrote:Is there any way to fudge this on the PM? Would a reset actually clear out the total lifetime meters?
Perform a factory reset
Leave the batteries out until the supercap completely discharges.
All those three will reset lifetime odometer.

No, SLK1966 has it right. There is much more than that number of K's shown by wear on the rail.

Re: Is this the least used erg of all time!?
I wouldn't buy it. The seller is claiming "Bought new" and "1,567 lifetime metres" - that fella is a bare faced liar. He's bought it himself on Gumtree, discovered that the PM3 doesn't work because it's got corrosion on the board or a blown supercap (or some other fate that Carl Watts would tell you about) and is now trying to pass it off as "low mileage". The chances are whoever buys it is going to end up spending somewhere more than USD$155 (because of your Pacific mark-up) to buy a new PM5 monitor for it.
I've got an old dead PM3 that has a blown supercap, it's a common reason why the old junk fails.
Note that the photos only have one page of the product ID pages on the monitor because that hides the date code & the firmware version for the PM3. It's probably not running anything as old as my Ver 82 firmware so it's likely that the firmware has been updated and that reset the lifetime metres (which didn't exist on pre-historic PM3 versions).

I just found something I've never heard of before. You can actually lease a new Model D. At least, these people say it's new. It can be done for "$93.00 or less a month", depending on one's credit rating. Even if it's only half of that (I'm sure it's considerably more), that equates to an unbelieveable $550.00 a year, 60% of the cost of a brand new one.

This reminds me of Rent-A-Center where you pay premium prices for items in exchange for short term use. I assume there is an option to buy as well, but I'm certain the price will be much higher than if you purchased the product directly.
On the other hand, Leaseville.com has been given an A+ rating by the Better Business Bureau, so I guess they must be doing something right. If someone wants to try out a C2 or any other kind of exercise equipment at home and can lease or rent it for a week or two, I can see where that might have some value. But over the long term, leasing or renting instead of buying can be extremely expensive. Doing so makes no sense to me.

This post only concerns fitness equipment. I have no idea if it pertains to other expensive products, although I believe it should. Buying it and paying for it in monthly installments is perfectly okay as long as the down payment and interest rate are acceptable to you. Purchasing it and then making monthly payments will usually be far less expensive than renting or leasing the same piece of equipment.remisture wrote:A monthly down-payment is a great alternative If you dont have the cash up front?

Re: Is this the least used erg of all time!?
Basically the odometer didn't work that well.
PM2, the four finger reset zero's the meters. Otherwise the odometer works really well on the PM2.
PM3, the older ones the "Just Row" function doesn't store the meters and when updating the firmware from the really old versions it resets the odometer. Even the latest versions the "Just Row" doesn't appear to increment the odometer.
After updating the firmware, which this one has never had since you can see a 10/13/2005 in the product ID screen, you have to row set distances or set times for the monitor to store the meters against the odometer.
Unfortunately I have seen hundreds of monitors now and 90% of them have zero or next to no meters on them due to everyone just getting on and pulling the handle without operating any buttons at all.
A good indication of wear is the state of the keypad on the monitor and the slide. The slide is something that never gets cleaned so this one I would say has had very minimal useage and is tidy for its age.

Re: Is this the least used erg of all time!?
That's interesting Carl - I didn't realise that about the just row.
I've only ever owned machines with PM4 and PM5s and almost always use just row
Should say I have no plans to buy this one. Just thought it does look particularly clean and unused - often that sticker on the top under the chain ends up all dirty and curled up at the edges somehow with use.
Also yeah the software looks original so your point about the just row would explain how it can. E more meters than it shows but still not that many.
Also wondered recently after having to order the foot belly reinforcement kit for my nearly new D, why they ever switched from that very solid, bolted on right-angled metal footplate, to the hollow plastic boxes on the newer version...?
If I didn't already have one, a nice older one like this could be a prime candidate for a quick once over and a new monitor.

Check the Odometer and then do a "Just Row" and see if the odometer changes.
Another good place to check for usage is under the foot stretchers, they move quite a bit and form a dust and scratches in the plastic over time on the D and on the C they cut right through the black coating and start eating into the aluminium with high usage.
