PM5 and USB memory
Trying to use a PM5 on a Model C erg. I initialized the memory stick with the latest utility. When the memory stick is inserted into the PM5 when the Main Menu is displayed, a memory stick icon shows at the very top of the display. But the menu does not change at all. Secondly, after rowing I get a message that the workout is being transferred to the memory stick. When I look at the memory stick at home with the utility there is no workout recorded. Something is not quite right, but I have not a clue. I don't know the PM5 firmware version.

Re: PM5 and USB memory
Get a USB 2.0 stick that's no bigger than 4GB. The PM5 doesn't like USB 3.0 ones.

Am using a Kingston USB 2.0 8 GB stick. Is the 8 GB a problem?

Re: PM5 and USB memory
It might be if that stick is power hungry. The PM5 is very close to the 500mA limit.Cyclingman1 wrote:Am using a Kingston USB 2.0 8 GB stick. Is the 8 GB a problem?
Try connecting the PM5 to your laptop so you don't need to worry about how soft the batteries might be and see if the PM5 can format the USB.

Re: PM5 and USB memory
You need to try various brands of USB stick, some work some don't.
When you first plug it in the PM5 sets up some files on it and you can see it doing that on the PM5 display. When you then plug the stick into your PC the files are visible.
If the stick is going to work it will as new out of the pack, don't bother trying to get it to work with various formatting, it won't work.
Current consumption is in the 90mA-130mA area going by the three I tried and it will simply kill your batteries, you pretty much need a mains powered 5V USB plug pack or have it plugged into your PC all the time with a USB stick in the PM5.
The best compact one I tried was this in 8Gb.

Thankfully they are as cheap as chips and there was a clearance bin full of them so just try 2 or 3 till you find one that works.

It needs to have a single partition formatted as FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32.Carl Watts wrote: If the stick is going to work it will as new out of the pack, don't bother trying to get it to work with various formatting, it won't work.

Yes but even when some are formatted correctly they still do not work. Like I said they should work straight out of the pack, you can waste a whole lot of time trying to get it going and it still doesn't work.Citroen wrote:It needs to have a single partition formatted as FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32.Carl Watts wrote: If the stick is going to work it will as new out of the pack, don't bother trying to get it to work with various formatting, it won't work.
Buy two or three and try them, those that do not work can be used for other stuff.

Re: PM5 and USB memory
Concept 2 ended up sending me a 4GB totally empty. Works.

Re: PM5 and USB memory
My Model D arrived a a week ago, and I feel happier with it than I have with some cars I've bought. However - as my wife plans to use it as well, we decided to try a USB to set up separate users (Concept2 - PLEASE allow multiple users on the PM5 without a USB stick). The PM5 seems to freeze every time I try to use a USB stick, which is extremely annoying. Does this just sound like an issue with the particular stick I'm using?

Re: PM5 and USB memory
It's not going to happen due to the way the PM5 works and the way the C2 utility reads the USB data.mongooseman wrote:(Concept2 - PLEASE allow multiple users on the PM5 without a USB stick).

Re: PM5 and USB memory
Can you elaborate? There's clearly a filing system in the PM5...and the way the utility reads from the stick is easily updated. Why don't you think that'll happen? I guess at some point we'll get a PM6, which I hope will be able to be retrofitted to my new Model D.Citroen wrote:It's not going to happen due to the way the PM5 works and the way the C2 utility reads the USB data.mongooseman wrote:(Concept2 - PLEASE allow multiple users on the PM5 without a USB stick).

Re: PM5 and USB memory
Yup, we're doing that - but to not allow multiple users on the monitor itself is a little inelegant...I'm fussy like that haha. Thanksremisture wrote:You can both install ErgData. Re: PM5 and USB memory
The PM5 microcontroller has limited memory so they removed one of the unused features of PM3/PM4 to make room for new functions like ErgData.

Re: PM5 and USB memory
That makes sense - sounds like a clear upgrade for the PM6...whenever that appears.Citroen wrote:The PM5 microcontroller has limited memory so they removed one of the unused features of PM3/PM4 to make room for new functions like ErgData.
