Too fast with PM5. Do I have a problem?
Hello,
I row with a Model D and I've recently changed my PM3 Monitor with a PM5 .
The "issue" ie that I am unbelievebly fast, setting a 100m session in 10.3 seconds.
Now I find myself at the first place in the world, and I am sure this is not right nor fair. I've ranked my time but I was not aware It was so fast.
I've tried a 500m session, achieving a 55.2 seconds record.
Of course I decided not to rank this record.
Did anybody have this issue before?

We've seen this hundreds of times. Your ergo is a model D, your PM5 is configured for a model B/C.
Main menu --> More options --> Utilities --> LCD Contrast
Once on the LCD Contrast menu press [UNITS] three times, then press [DISPLAY] three times. That gets the hidden set-up menu and you can change it from model B/C to model D/E and it will register normal data and normal times from that point.

I also believe there are plenty of people out there rowing year after year that don't realize its set wrong.

The other way round where you have a model D/E monitor on a model C gets noticed very much more quickly as you don't get any reading when you row. There's a jumper somewhere that sets the default model as C2 can supply monitors with the right default setting (I may have to open my PM5 and see if I can find that one, although it may just be a solder bridge).Carl Watts wrote:I also believe there are plenty of people out there rowing year after year that don't realize its set wrong.

Re: Too fast with PM5. Do I have a problem?
The PM5 should be the same as the later models of PM3 and PM4, there is no jumper to set its just done in the firmware.
Pretty common problem, had a call from a guy today that the pace was all over the place and somehow it had glitched and reverted to a Model B/C. You would have to wonder how many users out there think their pace is great and its because the monitor is set wrong.
Things must have got a little smarter with the PM5, I notice it threw a message that the tach sensor was not connected if you power it up on its own. Really wouldn't be that difficult to distinguish between the two different tach sensors either, especially as one generates enough power to run the PM5 and the other doesn't produce any power at all and has two wires not three.
Its just one of couple of things that would need to be sorted in the move to proper verification, the PM5 really needs to be able to autodetect the tach sensor and just stops displaying your row a few seconds into it should you try the wrong setting intentionally.

The rankings are already messed up, but they will get better as time goes by.
Quite looking forward to turning 50, my training pace 30 minute row will put me at number one in New Zealand in terms of verified rows only !

Re: Too fast with PM5. Do I have a problem?
Hello everybody,
I've had, of course, deleted my record but, believe me, I did not rank my time on purpose.
Moreover, ranking it, has awared me about my issue.
I've solved my problem and I realized myself, before reading your kind replies, that I had my PM5/rower unproperly set.
I had a suspect since writing the post.
I can also confirm that I experienced a bad reading in the monitor (pixeling or something similar) when I was rowing with unproper setup.
Thank you for your assistance.
I did not mean to offend or disrispect anybody with my "cheating" time.

Wonder how fast that would drop if all the true rowers ranked even a training piece lol

You did the logic thing, some people rank times, get on the nmr one spot and don,t start wondering.....Misterhelmet wrote:Hello everybody,

Check out this challenge which uses all verified/raced results even if you don't rank them. (I'm 52nd in the LWT class) Once the racing season kicks in then the list will fill up quickly, but it's interesting to see what everyone is actually pulling.

Re: Too fast with PM5. Do I have a problem?
My best is 7.44 on 2000m, Now I am about on 8.17 but I've been surgered on my knee for cruciate, 2 meniscus and various things on september 27th.
So I am quite satisfied.
I bought my C2 one year ago but I did not use it very much for standard distances so I am a newbie to everything.
That's why I did not know about records.
I've recently bought Ski Erg for my rehab so now I am in love with it. lol
Being 44 with a repaired quadricept tendin and cruciate plus 2 meniscus on the same leg, I am glad lol.
I will try for the first time 100m with the right setup tonight
Goodbye
