Fan noise from Model D

When was the last update? Is the one with PM5 less noisy than the one with PM4?

There is no structural difference related to the PM and the 3s, 4s, and 5s are interchangeable on all models. There have been a couple of minor structural changes in the D and a change in the color, but none of this has anything to do with noise. The very early As and Bs were very noisy. The C came out around 1996 and it was quieter. The D was introduced about 2006. The E is basically a heavy-duty, beefed-up version of the D. The D and E are the quite a bit quieter than the C. The dynamic is a quite different design and is noisier than the D and E, mostly because the chain box acts as a resonator.
