PM5 Battery Dead

Post by andylope » January 31st, 2016, 4:25 pm

I purchased a brand new Model D M5 black about December 20 2016.
The following week I had issues with the USB then the batteries totally died so installed new ones.

I complained about having to purchase new batteries after one week of use and even then only about 2000m
I did get a quick responce from Concept to send a new generator which I installed.
I was told to remove the batteries and see if the PM5 came on, no it did not with the old or new generator.

I was then told to load the Beta PM5 software. After loading the software the PM5 would come on with no batteries and either of the generators.

Mine was manufactured at the end of October. I would be very surprised if I was the only one with this issue.

Love the machine.

Did this seem to resolve your issues? updating firmware and generator replacement?

I have a Model D purchased in late October 2015. It hasn't been used alot, but the batteries are dead. After pulling the batteries yesterday, the PM5 would come on when I started rowing. This morning, with the batteries still out, the PM5 did not come on when I started rowing.

I'm going to get new batteries today, and update the firmware. But, since the PM5 is not coming on consistently with the batteries removed and starting to row, I'm concerned that maybe I have another issue.

I too recently purchased my rower and also after a week or 2 needed to replace the batteries. I was wondering if the PM5 display is supposed to time out when not in use. My display always seems to be on, even though it is not backlit.

Yes they are supposed to shutdown after a short period of time with no key presses or rowing.

Not sure about the PM5 but the PM4 is a very short shutdown, like 30 seconds from the main menu it shuts down if it see no activity.

If you plug a PC into the USB port then it changes things a little and it may not shutdown but if its just on batteries then it needs to shutdown and go to sleep.

Be sure to turn wireless off after you complete your session. The PM5 will stay "awake" if it is connected to your phone, etc via Bluetooth. At least mine does!

Ok, it now does shutdown after a while. I turned the wireless off and that may have fixed it. Thanks.

I have same problem with the battery. But to shut down the wireless cannot be a solution. I use a FR 210 and Garmin Connect. Normally easy. But without its not really fun. Any idea or solution?
Thanks

I bought a new Model D last week and after two workouts I have a lot of problems. It looks like that the battery is not really the problem. After crash yesterday I removed and input the battery again and all was fine. Battery Status was 48% after 28km. I tried to connect the HR Belt and the Garmin FR 210. Two times it was perfect, but now I have crashes. Any idea.

Admin confirmation is real slow :)

Best

It is the battery.
HR belts, USB sticks and bluetooth connection didn't work for me at 75% battery level.
I replaced the batteries and everything connects quickly. Level stays at 100%.

Don't leave the 'wireless' ON after workout. Bluetooth connection will drain the battery more quickly in any case.
If you use USB stick try to find a small 2.0 version.
Check your firmware just to be sure. Use the latest version found here:

The best solution is just get a USB plug pack like your phone charger and run it on mains power.

You can get really good quality USB cables that are 5 metres long so just run the cable to the nearest power point and plug it into the charger.
