Fit a model D in a suitcase!

Post by 6co2000 » November 17th, 2014, 11:06 am

Hello
I am planning a purchase of a concept2. I am in Houston Texas. I need it to travel with me all across the Atlantic to Europe and then all the way accross Africa down to the equator. Point is, that is a lot of flying, and a lot of chances to get an oversize baggage charge, each time...
I would like to dismantle it, and fit it into a suitcase. Is this possible at all?

For more precision, I am looking into a Model D + PM4.
I would have a large suitcase, but can also have large bag such as a golf bag for example.

Specifically, for this to happen, after carefully studying the available material on the website, I would think that:
1. I need to get the flywheel itself off the flywheel assembly
2. I need to separate the monitor arm from the front leg
3. May be get the seat off?
4. I would suppose the two large parts (shuttle channel + rail assembly) can fit into a large golf bag

and that would be as best as it gets huh?

Anyway, I am new to Concept2, so I am certain one of the forum users has already been transporting a concept 2 rower by air one day. I would like to learn from his/her experience.
Thanks for all the tips you could provide.

All the best

Practically speaking, you may be better off using http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/finder vs dismantling and reassembling a pretty big machine, even when broken down.

I saw this on another thread for the ski erg, it doesn't address your post exactly, it's an alternative (as far as easy transportation):

Good luck to you, either way!

Call Concept2, get a Model D box (as used for shipping from the factory).
http://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/in ... boxing.pdf

It weighs quite a lot but some airlines will take sporting equipment (with some restrictions) as hold baggage for free.

Just wanted to feedback on this.
Got the rower through airline checking with a hard case ski bag.
received at home in perfect condition!

Thanks to all for the tips!

That's intriguing - in which ski suitcase did the rower fit?
