Re: Concept 2 pm3
1. Check the wire from the sensor is connected to the bottom of your PM3
2. Check the PM3 is configured for the right model of rower
Main menu --> More Options --> Utilities --> Product ID
3. If it's wrong
Main menu --> More Options --> Utilities --> LCD Contrast
Once on the LCD Contrast menu press [CHANGE UNITS] three times, then [CHANGE DISPLAY] three times
That brings up the configuration menu where you can set the rower model.
Do that first before doing a "Factory Reset".

Re: Concept 2 pm3
Thanks fellas.
Yes, the sensor wire is fully seated into the PM3
Yes, the PM3 is configured for a Model D
I do have a buddy with a C2 Model C that I'll try my PM on and see what happens. If my PM3 works, then I know it ain't the monitor.
If the PM3 doesn't work, then I'll update the firmware. (thanks for the tips/links how to)
Finally, a factory reset is in order before calling C2
I can only hope it's the tach and/or cable as that's gotta be cheaper to replace.

Update --- The PM3 worked on my buddies Model C (after setting the PM3 for model C)
Back home, set up for model D, cleaned the flywheel & magnets, massaged the cable, and still nuthin...
Guess all that's left is replace the tach/cable?

If you have a multimeter check for open circuit on the sensor.

Re: Concept 2 pm3
Its common on these older versions of PM3 to get corrosion on the board right at the critical TACH output signal and it make s a track go open circuit.
To see if thats a problem you can dissasemble the PM3 and flip the board and the board should be spotless. If these is any green stain on the board or on the back of the rubber keypad then you have a problem and the PM3 will not register that your rowing.
The other common problem is that one of the 3 wires in the TACH sensor that goes to the PM3 goes open circuit and you need to replace the sensor.
With the aid of a multimeter the lead can be tested as just two screws over the black cover and it comes out but you do need to get through the protective coating to make good contact.

Re: Concept 2 pm3
Thanks again fellas. I'll check for an open circuit this weekend out of curiosity, but I've already ordered a replacement generator. The fact my PM3 worked on a buddies machine makes me 99% sure that's the issue. I've been wrong before, but don't let my wife see this in writing.

To close out this saga and update the thread...
I ordered a replacement tach/generator ($28 w/ shipping) from C2, installed it, and been problem free ever since.
Rowing with a working monitor is WAY more enjoyable. lol

If your handy with a soldering iron you can just replace the cable with one from Digi-Key part number CP-2204-ND for a few dollars.
It's pretty much always the cable that fails at the connector to the monitor end. Colours of the new cable are all transposed however but you can work it out with a multimeter if only one of the three conductors have gone open circuit in your origional cable.
The older type of single core pickups are easier as the holes are bigger in the board to feed the wires through. The blue connector on the board needs to be removed and the solder sucked out of the holes. Not a big job for a technical type of person. The newer dual core pickups are harder to work on. A small cable tie and your finished, as good as new.

Re: Concept 2 pm3
Just logged to say thanks! hired a model C rower a few weeks back and found my times were awful compared to 2013, when I did check the drag factor, the damper on 1 would indicate 190, reaching up to 290 when set on 5 even when the rower didn't feel that heavy at all, but clearly affecting the split displayed therefore all other calculations based on that.Citroen wrote: 3. Got a new monitor, issue sorted, until I did remove the battery cause the memory was giving me an error 137-4, at that point I start digging further and found this.
It was *only* the monitor being set for a model D that was messing up all the measures.
Cheers!
