I think you need to do a reset on the monitor which is done by pressing the reset button which is recessed in a small hole at the rear of the PM. You need something like a pen or similar to push into the hole and press the button. This will do a hardware reset on your monitor.

You might be asked setup questions like setting date and time and language and perhaps even the model of the erg you have, but once done you should be good to go I think.

Take the batteries out now.
Put a fresh pair in this time tomorrow - give the monitor 24hrs to completely discharge the big capacitor.
If it comes alive then run the C2 Utility with the monitor connected to your laptop to update the firmware to the latest version.

The C2 Utility is a piece of software that has a few functions
  • Read logcard & update log.concept2.com
  • Read logcard & write a spreadsheet
  • Update PM3 firmware
  • Update PM4 firmware
See http://www.concept2.com/service/softwar ... t2-utility

You download the installer from there.

Connect your laptop to your PM3 with the supplied USB-A to USB-B cable, start the Utility and click your mouse on the little gear wheel icon.

You need to post what firmware version you have in your PM3 at the moment as upgrading it is not a simple process if you have a very old version like V61 or V82.

Carl.

I've got a couple of V0.97 PM3's at my local gym I may want to upgrade. Is there any complications doing so with that version of firmware?

Thanks.

Anything less than V101 is a problem.

You need a Windows machine with the V101 setup program to get to V101.
http://software.concept2.com/pm3firmwar ... 1Setup.exe

Once you're at V101 then the C2 Utility running on Windows or Mac OSX can update from there to V108.

The more modern PM3s running V303 or later can be updated on Windows or Mac OSX with no problems and no jump start needed.

Thanks for the info.

I assume that V101 setup program runs independantly of the C2 Utility software to patch the PM3? A case of connecting the laptop to the PM3 and simply running the setup program.

Anything less than V101 can be a problem to update via the new Utility so you need to use the older one to get to V101 and then the new one to get to V108.

The older utility can be quite tricky to use but DONT unplug the PM3 no matter what the errors are. Also it doesn't see the monitor most of the time so the trick is to row a few strokes first before doing the update.

When I fist started repairing thr PM3's I had a couple of "Bricked" PM3's that had been unplugged while doing the update and were stuck in the loader screen.

Long time lurker, but finally joined the ranks. Only I'm an idiot.
And I'm in this thread for a reason, but the final result was never reported.

I just bought a (2006) Model D PM3 w/ (firmware 90) & 38,000 lifetime meters on it for 500 bucks. The log card has 2 entries with the newest one in 2011. The owner (obviously) never used it, just moved into a new place literally a couple of blocks from the capitol building in DC, and has zero room for the C2. She sent me a bunch of photos, with the PM3 on a bunch of different screens, so we met up and I bought it. She offered to set-it-up-for-a-test-ride, but her rowhouse was way too compact and I declined. Idiot. Now that I'm all set up, the PM3 is "stuck on zero."

From C2 -

1) Ensure the “tach” (generator) cable is plugged in fully. Check
2) Ensure the model type on the monitor matches the indoor rower or SkiErg in use. Check
3) Perform a full monitor reset. To perform a full monitor reset: Remove both D-Cell batteries from the monitor overnight. Check

If the problem persists after resetting the monitor:
4) Unplug the monitor pickup wire and inspect it for frays or breaks. Check
5) Inspect the monitor pickup wire port on the bottom of the monitor. If there is a crack in the port, the monitor will need to be replaced. Check
6) If the wire and port look fine, securely plug the wire back into the monitor. Check
I think you need to do a reset on the monitor which is done by pressing the reset button which is recessed in a small hole at the rear of the PM. You need something like a pen or similar to push into the hole and press the button. This will do a hardware reset on your monitor.
Did this also, followed by removing the batteries for 30+ minutes as stated on the C2 website. Still nothing.
Any words of wisdom before following through on this next step?

7) If you do not have access to a known working monitor, contact Concept2 or your authorized dealer for further assistance.

Have you tried the factory reset? I believe it's done by holding down both the CHANGE DISPLAY and CHANGE UNITS buttons for around 7 seconds or so until you see a message appear on the PM screen.

You also might try a firrmware update but you will have to use the special updater available from Concept 2 to bring your PM up to v1.01 before then using the regular COncept 2 Utility program to then bring it up to V1.08. I'm guessing the action of the firmware update itself MIGHT also prod the PM into a functional state.
