To good to be true?

Post by iRow » August 16th, 2013, 8:14 pm

My rowing machine recently broke so I was looking to get a model D and came across this site selling them much cheaper than anywhere I have seen. Seems to good to be true, probably a scam, but has anyone ever heard of http://fitnessequipmentblowout.net/ ? Also if anyone is looking to sell a model c,d,or e in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia please let me know, thanks.

559.00 doesn't seem all that cheap to me. I sold mine for 500 a year and a half ago.

For a new model D w/PM3 and free shipping $559 seems like an incredible price. I can't seem to find a telephone number on their website which could be a red flag. I'd investigate further for that price.

I've been looking online and the best price I've found is $890 from legitimate sellers.

Looked a little further and found this:

Free shipping? I didn't spot that on the site.

Yes, "FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE".

I added a rower to the cart and saw this on checkout page: "Checkout Unavailable The Shop owner has not yet chosen a payment gateway."

The site is only four days old so possibly they are still setting up. My guess is it's a scam of some sort. The known legitimate sites don't advertise prices on Concept2, you have to contact them for the small discount.

IT IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!!!

There is a a growing trend of setting up fairly elaborate professional looking websites that offer popular equipment items for 40-60% of normal retail and spend a month or two collecting orders and money, and then evaporate.

The "CONTACT US" section tells you everything you need to know about who you are buying from:
If you have a question about an order that you have already placed, you MUST reply to the email receipt that you received from Paypal ONLY. This is the only way to check on your order. If you have a question about a product email . The person that answers these emails does not have access to order information.

So let's review:
Payment is by Paypal only,
No contact information whatsoever for a "Company"
Website less than a week old
Price is less than 50% of normal retail
FREE shipping WORLDWIDE - I mean come on...really? Anywhere on the planet for $559?

OK and lastly, the icing on the cake:
WHOIS registration on the site:
Registrant:
Home Fitness Store
2000 Town Center
West Palm Beach, FL 33412
US

Domain name: FITNESSEQUIPMENTBLOWOUT.NET

Administrative Contact:
crow, sam sales@fitnessequipmentblowout.net
2000 Town Center
West Palm Beach, FL 33412
US
+1.8323904132
Technical Contact:
crow, sam sales@fitnessequipmentblowout.net
2000 Town Center
West Palm Beach, FL 33412

Now just type the Houston based telephone number of the registrant into your search engine and read the results and particularly this one about the people who all paid $600 for a new Model D and all they got was an invisible rower delivered by an invisible truck in an invisible box:
http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/ ... id=1957918

Still not convinced? OK, with that phone number in your search engine, go a few pages in and count how many fitness companies come up in the past year all over the US. Home Planet Fitness, Fitness Planet USA, Home Fitness USA...blah blah blah. VoIP telephone in "Houston" which could be anywhere on the planet.

As the old expression goes, it's good work if you can get it. This scammer has the site all setup on his hard drive and spends a few minutes relabeling the title name and $20 on a domain registration and in under an hour he's got a whole new look to scam off of. Collect $50k in orders over a month or two and then...poof.

Thanks folks, I was already fairly convinced it was a scam, but now I am certain. I guess I will just have to keep looking on CL to buy a used one.

Just an update, I lucked out and found a great deal. Just picked up a great condition model d for $150 on CL. Sometimes things just work out, and I am glad it was not a scammer on CL since there are so many.

The best price I have seen is from RougeFitness.com. $849 + $45 shipping - Model D w/PM3. Add $125 for PM4.

You have to email them and they send you a link to the prices.
