Silly question => black vs grey Model D
Silly question => black vs grey Model D
This is a silly question, but has the black model D been an option all along? I've been looking at picking up a C2 Model D but don't recall seeing the black color there before.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Looks like it's a special custom paint job.

Looks slick! Based on the C2 store online it does look like it takes a little longer to get.
Re: Silly question => black vs grey Model D
Starting 7/15/2012 the light blue Model D was replaced with two different paint options, grey and black. We will continue to carry spare parts for light blue machines in addition to parts for the grey and black models.
Re: Silly question => black vs grey Model D
I'd be curious to know how the black model D sales compare to the grey? It seems like the black is often sold out at the web stores that carry it (other than C2 itself), while grey always seems available. Owning a black model D myself, it looks much more refined and higher quality than the older light blue model D, even though it should be functionally the same, so I can see the why people prefer it.

I seriously doubt C2 USA would want to reveal that commercially sensitive info.

Black is not the only new color; they also changed the grey to a little darker shade on the new models. I assembled a new Model D last week and when I placed it next to a one year old Model D I noticed the color shift. It's just a tick darker gray.

I know they changed both colors last July. The thing with the new grey is that while it is basically the same shade as on the model E, and slightly darker than the older light blue, the pictures I've seen are very inconsistent. The color seems to vary between grey and white making it hard to get a god feel for it. I've always thought the light blue and grey models looked very generic, which I think is one reason why Concept 2's tend to get put in corners or obscure places in many fitness clubs.
Concept 2 released news on their website about the new colors, it would be natural that they follow up with general comments about how the changes have been received.

I have a black one, and I have to say that I love it - I think the black itself is a more aggressive color (also symbolic of the erg being synonymous with pain, haha). In the end, it's up to you, but 10/10 would buy a black one again if I could go back to the time when I purchased my erg.

Re: Silly question => black vs grey Model D
Another CRASHB is in the books for me and it was very cool to see the entire arena floor at BU covered in new black ergs. From warmup to the competitor area, the whole place was nothing but black ergs.
I so enjoyed saddling up to a brandy new erg for my CRASHB piece yesterday; that was my first drive on the new black D. I set a new PR there yesterday so I would have to say that black is definitely faster! I liked it! I'd definitely buy one if buying a new erg since black is stealth and stealth is always good in rowing.

I don't know why, but my speed lowered a little since the sweep of my 8 years old erg with a black one.
I was doing the 6K under 23' consistently and now with the blackly I struggle to do it under 23:20.
