PM3 Wont turn off

Post by pags » October 8th, 2012, 5:45 pm

Can anyone offer advice as to how I can fix my PM3 so that it turns off. It used to turn off automatically but now it stays on all the time (the fly wheel is not moving).

Thank you.

Do you have it connected to a laptop with the USB cable?

What firmware version?

What happens if you press the [MENU/BACK] button four times?

Thanks for replying Citroen,

- The USB is not connected

- Firmware version is 97 (I have never updated the firmware since purchasing the rower)

- Pressing the Menu/Back button 4 times turned it off... thanks for letting me know... at least I won't drain the batteries until I can figure out how to get it to turn-off automatically again.

Is there a sensor of some sort that needs to be cleaned or maintained in some fashion?

Thanks again.

Try updating the firmware to a current version. You'll need to run http://software.concept2.com/pm3firmwar ... 1Setup.exe to get to V101 before you can use the C2 Utility to do further updates.

Nothing should need cleaning.

Update the firmware, V97 is old and the latest version has just come out.

Download the update utility 6.50 from the Concept 2 website and run it.

http://www.concept2.com/service/softwar ... t2-utility

This version shuts the monitor down faster from the main menu in about 1 minute as compared to the older versions that takes ages like 4 minutes.

You can also use the Digital Rowing software after the update if you wanted to.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My laptop is an Apple Mac so the setup.exe file to get to version 101 first wont work on my laptop. I tried searching for a Mac version on the Concept2 website but didn't find one. All I could find was a 5.6.1 Version of the C2 utility... so I gave it a shot. It failed to load as you said it would Citroen. The error message indicated that it timed out while waiting for the PM3 to change modes which means little to me. With no other options I retried loading version 107 with the C2 Utility 5.6.1 a number of times. It finally loaded to completion on the 4th try.

So the short story is that I now have firmware Version 107 loaded and running on the PM3.

I made a short 12 min row and walked away from the rowing machine. Came back 20 mins later and the PM3 was still on. So the problem remains. I am able to turn it off manually by pressing the Menu/Back button 4 times.

This has always shut off automatically in the past 5+ years that I've owned it. Any other suggestions on how to fix it? I certainly can live with it by shutting it off manually and nothing else seems to be wrong, so it is a minor issue now that I know how to shut it off manually.

Thanks Again.

Does the PM3 shut down when disconnected from the Erg ?

I would pull all the connectors on it and see what happens. If it still doesn't shut down it's an internal component problem with the monitor and there is little you can do about it, you will just have to manually turn it off.

With the older version of Firmware the monitor takes several minutes to turn off automatically, if you update the firmware it takes about 30 seconds to turn off automatically if it sees no rowing or keypresses.

Carl, the software i received with my monitor is too old to load on any PC that i currently own. Is there a way to upgrade the firmware without the actual monitor software on my PC?

I don't understand the question, there is no version that is too old. What version of firmware do you see in the "Product ID" screen of the monitor ?

You simply download the Concept 2 update utility, connect the monitor and update it.

All very easy on a PC, don't ask me about a Mac, I hate them anyway.

If you have a pre-jurassic PM3 (firmware less that V101) you may need to use: http://software.concept2.com/pm3firmwar ... 1Setup.exe

Beyond V101 you MUST use the Concept2 Utility to maintain the firmware on your PM3/PM4/PM5.
