Same problem here... If anyone can help. Just bought used Model D with PM3 and looking for alternative to buying a new monitor.2 minutes after the finished workout PM3 display turned off, just few horizontal lines remained there.
there was no reaction on any button, neither on reset.
Then new batterries were replaced, left without power more than 2 hours but nothing helped.
There are still just horizontal lines at the monitor, no button reaction, neither reset helps.
Does anybody have any idea what should I do before I send it to the repair?

Re: Horizontal lines on PM3
The first thing to do is ensure you have the latest Firmware on the Monitor.
http://www.concept2.com/us/service/firmware/pm3/
Look in the product ID screen and post the version your currently running. People seldom update it and it may cure your problem. If you have any lines missing on the display with the monitor running normally it is the graphic display itself that is faulty.

Re: Horizontal lines on PM3
You should also leave the batteries out for 24 hours to let the big capacitor fully discharge as that will force the PM3 to do a reset.

Re: Horizontal lines on PM3
The later model PM3 has a reset button on the back. If you have an earlier version and the memory backup capacitor has failed, which is likley the monitor will reset in a matter of seconds if you remove the batteries. With a functioning supercap on the early model it will backup for about 20 minutes, after which time if you put the batteries back in and it goes into the language selection menu it has reset. The newer version of PM3 really needed the reset button as it draws about 1/10 of the standby current and it would take hours for the backup cap to discharge to do a reset the old way.
A Firmware update is the way to go, but it can be tricky and may have to be done twice to get you to the latest version.

Re: Horizontal lines on PM3
Did a firmware update... now running version 105. Still having same issue. Inspected inside and doesn't appear to be any gross corrosion. Serial number is 2000 series, so C2 states prob manufacture between 2004-2008; made in Mexico.
I'll try the button reset and batteries out for another 24hrs.

Any serious corrosion on these happens on the other side of the board between the rubber keypad and the board.
If you remove the two corner screws the board comes out and you can check the back of it.
The rubber keypad should be spotless, any green haze on this or the board will indicte you will have problems.
While out clean the keypad and board contacts with some Isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud.

Re: Horizontal lines on PM3
Scott from C2 helped me troubleshoot... both sides of the circuit board looked clean. He thinks it might be the display, so C2 shipped me one and it should be here tomorrow. I hope this fixes it.... Otherwise I'll upgrade to a PM4 so I'll be able to use the iPad ErgCoach when it gets released in 2012.

New display works like a charm! Just took me 5 minutes to figure out how to change the language from German to English! Thanks to Scott from C2 for a getting me a replacement display in only 2 days!
