when i row on my dynamic, after a while the seat starts to hit its front and back bumpers. the footboard thing also hits the seat's front bumper. how can i stop this? i dont really get why the seat moves in the first place...
please help, this problem is very disruptive when i try to row, and it is the only thing stopping me from doing it regularly. i would like to start rowing every day, but i cant even row for a few minutes without having to stop because of my seat.

Re: questions about dynamic erg's seat!
Have you checked the seat bungee and its attachment? It should be really tight when the seat is pushed to either of the stops. When I pluck it like an instrument string, my wife tells me that I am getting a B note at the front stop and a D note at the rear. They the ones bracketing the C below middleC, but she said that there were a lot of overtones, so she was not quite sure of the octave range. I wouldn't have any idea myself. In any case, a much lower tone would indicate a failing bungee.cooperschwartz wrote:when i row on my dynamic, after a while the seat starts to hit its front and back bumpers. the footboard thing also hits the seat's front bumper. how can i stop this? i dont really get why the seat moves in the first place...

Since bungees are rubber, they will deteriorate over time, especially if exposed to smog. I used to have a model D on slides and the slide bungees had to be replaced occasionally. Bungees that are under a lot of tension are especially vulnerable to deterioration from attack by ozone.

Re: questions about dynamic erg's seat!
The reason the DIR seat moves is to simulate on water rowing in a boat. Nothing in the boat is fixed to the water the way a Model A,B,C,D,E erg is locked to the ground.cooperschwartz wrote:when i row on my dynamic, after a while the seat starts to hit its front and back bumpers. the footboard thing also hits the seat's front bumper. how can i stop this? i dont really get why the seat moves in the first place...

question 2 "What sort of interpretation can be given for the seat movement on DIR [Dynamic Indoor Rower] ?"
You probably have to adjust your techinique. I think you have to be smoother with good timing of feet and hands, just like in a boat. The Faults and Corrections on the Concept2 UK site may help. Get a mirror so you can see yourself row. Watch that your seat makes one of the 2 patterns described in the Biorow article. And watch for the faults.
Biorow exceprt:
Conclusion: seat movement on Concept2 Dynamic Erg
is a good indicator of rowing style: Consequential style
causes change of the direction of the seat movement during the
drive and recovery; in simultaneous style the seat moves continuously
towards the stern during the drive and to the bow during
recovery. A similar phenomenon can be observed on-water or
with erg on slides, but it is more obvious on DIR because the seat
moves relative to the stationary frame.
Here's a discussion of rowing styles from 03-2006
