PM 2 works only if I literally warm it up?

Post by WOG » November 2nd, 2011, 11:02 am

My PM 2 went unused for a while. There was a little, very little, battery acid. I cleaned it off with some vinegar and a q-tip, then some alcohol and a q-tip and dried it off over a burner on the stove. To my surprise, it came on and worked fine. After I turn it off and let it sit, it comes on but very very faint. But I warm it up over the burner and it's fine again. I cleaned the whole board with alcohol but still the same. The screen display will very gradually increase, but still not perfect. Any ideas as to whats up?
Thanks

The LT1044/MAX1044 is not generating the -3Vdc for the LCD Contrast and it needs to be replaced.

There are two small yellow tant capacitors to the left of it that should both have 3V dc across them with the unit powered up. One is +3V and the other has -3V on it with respect to the negative of the battery.

I have a similar problem with a PM2. I recently got a model c the pm2 that had a very very small amount of corrosion that i've cleaned up and with new batteries the monitor works perfectly. however i keep the rower in the garage and the pm2 wont turn on if it gets cold as soon as i bring it in the house and warm it up it works perfectly and i can then use it in the rower in the garage no problem. So at the moment i keep the pm2 in the house its just a bit of a pain having to keep taking it off and on does anyone have any idea why this might be happening.
