Help Pricing a Model D

Hi,

I am seriously considering ordering a new dynamic rower and would sell my Model D in the process. It is about 7 years old with 9.5 million meters and had been meticulously maintained. I have a core perform seat installed (unfortunately, I don't think this seat will work with the new dynamic..bummer) and it has the PM3 monitor. I have a friend at work who is possibly interested, but there seems to be quite a range for used prices out there so I would appreciate any guidance from folks as to what it's worth. I have slides with it, too, but I don't think he has room for those so I guess I would try to sell them separate.

If he doesn't want it and I end up selling through an ad, would it be better to wait until the fall when people are moving back inside?

Any guidance you folks can provide would be greatly appreciated.

ModelD's on Ebay sell for anywhere from $625 (great deal) to the full price for a new one.
If it was me I would aim for more than $800 for one in top condition with only 9 million meters.
Around $750 would be a reasonable price.

If you sell it on Ebay, I'd take a dozen good photos, and list it for 99 cents.

I sold a pair of slides two years ago for $200 on Ebay, with only 3 or 4 photos.

There is a big difference between the "D1" and the "D2" unfortunately most buyers don't know the difference and end up paying almost the new price for a machine 6 or 7 years old over here when it is the earlier pre August 2006 version.

The later model can have a much better version of the PM3/PM4 (released Sept 2008) and numerous other improvements including some major ones with the frame, that err litterally fell in half due to stress point being introduced into it.

They "Look" the same as the newer version but essentially they are different Ergs.

Thanks, guys. I was thinking somewhere around $700-750 would be fair. I don't have the box for it anymore so I'd much rather sell it local or deliver it in the area (I'm in CT) rather than put it on ebay. I do have the box for the slides so that would be easier.

I did not know there was a D1 and D2. Mine has been flawless with no issues at all. The only thing I've done is replace the batteries a couple of times. I haven't beat on it either with hard intervals. I bet 99% of my meters rowed have been a 5000m segment as I really only use it for keeping in shape, not training. And truth is, I don't break any records on it either as I'm pretty slow and steady!

If my friend doesn't want it and no one at the local rowing club does, is it OK to list it here? I've seen a few on here as I searched, but not many so I wonder where folks sell them when they upgrade.

I think it's okay to list it here but you likely won't get much response.

I've sold 3 ergs on Ebay, and feel that it is the most popular place to sell them.

If you don't have a box, you can get one from C2 ($40 or so), which I did on one occasion.

Kw I just picked up my used D1 on Craigslist for $700 on 7/4/11. It literally had a brand new PM3 put on it the month earlier. The fellow who owned it bought it used himself on eBay for nearly what I gave him for it. It had a semi-failed PM3 on it when he bought, but accd. to him he rarely used it (jogger) so that didn't bother him. Lucky for me it finally failed so I got a brand new monitor. The machine is actually in very good shape. All I did was vacuum out the flywheel and grilles. It is the earlier D, but was not part of the metal fatigue serial numbers. Actually if you don't have the original accessories/manuals you can get them from C2 possibly for free. I did. Got everything but the USB wire. I didn't want to pay $100+ for shipping so I exclusively shopped Craigslist. Only considered local eBay items I could pick up so if u list there be sure to make local pick up an option. Good luck.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I was never aware of the metal fatigue issues and presume that C2 would contact folks if their machines were part of that problem, but I just emailed them to find out.

My machine is in great shape, too, and I have the core perform seat and slides. I have also had a "C-breeze" installed almost from the start, which helps to keep the dust out of the fan area and provides a bit of a cooling! The only reason I am contemplating selling is to go with the dynamic.

Heard back from C2 and as expected, my machine was not part of the limited amount of machines that had the potential issue. Here is part of the reply I received from them if anyone is interested:

Space is probably my biggest thing, too. I love the slides and am bummed that the core perform seat won't fit on the dynamic, but if we downsize as we're talking, I am just not going to have the room needed for the slides anymore. The thought of setting them up every time I want to row is not that appealing either.

Having a spacer helps to make the setup easier and faster, but it would still be a pain in the butt to do it every time. I posted a picture of my spacer rig on another thread, but I'll repeat it here:
