Squeak in the Flywheel

Post by Tall Man » February 15th, 2011, 8:26 pm

I have been enjoying a used (about 1100 km) Model C for a little over a week. There is a faint squeak in the flywheel as it slows down to a stop, not constant but pulses as the wheel turns like it is rubbing on something at one point of the rotation. Should the bearings in these be lubed at some point?

Paul, This is a not-uncommon noise (low speed chirp) that has yet to be proven as an indicator of any problem. We had an erg in the workout room here at C2 that chirped on and off for many years and many meters and it appears to be caused by the interaction of the clutch on the axle surface. There is a way to lube the clutch, which may or may not eliminate the noise. Give me a call or PM me for further info......C2JonW

Thanks C2Jon,
I am not long enough in the forums to have PM status. I'll keep rowing, assured that its not serious and touch base with you later.
