Using the LogCard vs Online LogBook?

Post by DimitriNYC » February 17th, 2010, 10:04 am

Folks,
I am relatively new here, I just purchased a Model E last week and have been getting acquainted with the operation, learning to row and getting used to the technique based on the various videos and reading materials.

While most elements of the unit are fairly intuitive, including the operation of the PM4, there are some aspects I am not clear about. So here it goes:

Should I be using both the online logbook and the logcard that came with the unit? Is there a benefit to using both or does one replace the other? I have not yet installed the software that came in the package on my imac, so my apologies if I am missing something. But it appears that the logcard is saving/collecting more detailed information. I have tried looking for some additional reading material on the C2 website on how the two pieces fit together, but have no found anything.

Any advice on more effective usage of these tools, including any additional reference source is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Dimitri

Connect your PM4 to your computer with the USB cable.

Install this http://www.concept2.com/us/service/software/c2u/ and it will all become clear.

It is handy to have a log card as a backup copy of your results. This is even more relavent if you start rowing online with say RowPro as it can on the odd ocassion crash and with a logcard you can upload the final results.

And if you switch back and forth between machines, e.g. one at a boat club/gym and one at home, the LogCard makes your saved workout data easily portable.

I use the logcard (with a logcard reader) to enter my data into the online logbook. Then I make a spreadsheet of the complete data that is on the logcard. The card has much more detail than the book, which just has the final results. My spreadsheets have all the split data as well. Unfortunately the creation of a spreadsheet from the card ends up with all the data stored on the card dating back to the time that the card was first used. However, it is easy to delete all the old data from the sheet and just leave the current day's data intact.
