Why is Model D better than Model C (besides the monitor)?
I am the proud owner of a Model C that I bought used 2 years ago for $500. It is in great shape and runs very smooth. I have been biking a lot this summer and want to stay in shape as winter comes, and am interested in Rowpro to keep things interesting. The problem is that I have a PM2. So I am thinking about buying a PM3 for $160 and then Rowpro.
My dilemma is should I buy a Model D instead and sell my model C? I am very happy with the C, so it seems cheapest to just upgrade to the PM3. I can't see buying a Model D new at $900. If the D was in some way superior to the C, then I would think about looking around for a used one.

The D is a bit less noisy.
Instead, older versions have a babyblue color.
If your C is in good shape, you may upgrade the PM, and the handle if you like (try it out first!), and I see no need to change your erg.

no difference
Based on the response, I've decided that there is almost no difference between models C and D.

The D is quieter, the pm3 not as accurate and useful.
Otherwise they are much the same.

Tried the Model E
Today went to a health club with a friend and spied a model E. My friend said it is never in use - the ellipticals and treadmills are much more popular. Oh Well. Anyway, I tried it out to answer my question. My impression is that it is quieter, but I was surprised that I missed the noise. I enjoy rowing and when my wife tries to talk to me, I say "Sorry Honey - I can't hear you over the tremendous noise that I am making by my powerful rowing". Kidding by the way, I actually don't make such assinine comments, I just think them. Moral: I am even more happy with my model C - don't feel like I am missing anything.javascript:emoticon(':P')
I have a C upgraded to a PM3 and use rowpro. I love RP, so the differences between the PM2 and 3 don't really matter once you use that. The D is quieter, and that is important for some people, but I just turn up the music.

After 5 or so minutes into your workout you would hardly notice any difference between the C, D and E. THe basic design between them is still the same.
However, if your thinking of upgrading your PM2 monitor for Rowpro then you might as well skip the PM3 and go for the PM4. It's a little bit smarter and has a few extra features. The most useful for you would be the wireless heart rate monitor. The WIFI aspect can only really be utilized by people like myself that sometimes erg in groups down at the local rowing club.

Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.
