Suunto Heartrate Belt

Post by ckaiserca » March 2nd, 2008, 10:57 pm

I've been working out with my Concept2 on an almost daily basis since June, and the other day I developed an issue with the Suunto Heartrate Belt. The PM4 stopped being able to see it, and I thought that I had a dead battery, so I replaced it. Still not working.

I noticed a small crack in the rubber/plastic area of the electronics module were the elastic strap hooks into it (I think this is also part of the "wet" sensor area?). It looks like this could be the problem. Tonight I got the belt to register on the PM4 again after a bit of fussing, but it looks as if the hole where the strap hooks in will break in a matter of a short time.

How long have others had their Suunto belts? Have you had this sort of issue? I know that the chest belt will never last as long as the erg itself, but I would certainly hope to get more than 9 months of use out of it!

The UK forum has discussed this, they have had a very high failure rate on the Sunnto belts. Evidently enough that Sunnto has done a re-design.

If your Suunto belt was supplied by Concept 2 - contact them for warranty support. The belf carries a 12mo warranty in Europe (may be different in the US of A/Canada).

FWIW - I have Garmin Forerunner 50 (heart monitor belt + watch) and it syncs with my PM4.
