Training

Since the competition phase of my erg season is done, it's back to long cardio pieces like today's heart rate variation workout.

8min warm-up, 4 separte ups of 2-3min with 5min easy pieces in between, 10min cool-down.

43 minutes, 2:10.9 avg split, 9812m total.

Training

I tried one of the website-recommended short interval workout today.

1min easy, 1min medium, 1min hard, 1min easy, 1min medium, 1min hard, 1min very hard, 30 sec rest between each.

A very challenging workout as it stacks the two hardest intervals back to back at the end ...

Training

Some easy intervals to get back into speed work.

2 min "off", 1 min "on" x 10

Hitting 1:38-1:40 in the "on" stuff. Training

I think Neil may have something there, if I've read him right.

While it's cringefully funny sometimes to watch how badly some gym-heads use the erg, it would behoove us all to drop a helpful hint or two to the abusers rather than laugh into our sleeves (I row in tank top, so no sleeves to...

Product

I haven't used the PM3 HR monitor attachment, but I'm a big HR monitor user and here's what I have observed using one on the Erg.

I row on a Model C with a PM2 so I use my own Polar model 410 with the thick plastic chest strap. Since it's a pain to try to look at your wrist while you're r...

I think the only way to tell how fast you can do a 2k is to do a 2k.

Using the French system, my 2k pace would be far too hard for me to maintain. I know because I tried. Racing 2k is very different from racing 500 or 1000m. You can get away with a lot in a shorter race, like using upper ...
