I just bought a model C after using one at a gym for several months. The beam on which the slide sits is angled down a couple of degrees (I checked the floor and that's level!). Does it matter? Thank you all. The suggestions were great and I think I tried all of them! What's worked best for me is the duct tape combined with only lacing my sneakers half way up to allow more swing. The duct tape absorbs the rubbing wonderfully. It's shredded by the end of a day's 20k row but my heels aren't....

Thank you everyone. I tried rowing without shoes today. It didn't feel quite right but I want to try again when I have more experience.
