It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. My race was wretched. The day was wonderful. The good thing about being among the aging has-beens is that I got the race out of the way early in the day and could then meet so many of my heroes and heroines: Tom Rawls, with whom I’ve had a slow-mo...

Both lateral and medial epicondylitis is a tough combination. As for causes . . . The lateral epicondylitis may be due to "winging it," letting your elbows drift away from your body at the finish. Think about keeping your arms tight to your body at the end of the drive. The medial epicondylitis may...

Sara: Just as an aside, maybe you can change your name from citiusaltiusfortius9 to citiaaltiafortia since those are the feminine forms of those Latin adjectives. Then perhaps you don't have to settle for number 9 but you could be the first to have that name and be at the cutting edge of societal e...

El Paso....(I love that song!) Forgot it was Marty Robbins...Had to look that up! "You got a lot of nerve to say you are my friend" "Positively Fourth Street" by Robert Zimmerman, Hibbing MN. And now straight from a sophomore English class, perhaps the most pretentious folk-rock couplet ever writte...

A good poll. I would recommend another category: My technique is Quirky . If you look at videos of indoor races, you see all sorts of curious styles--the granny grab, handle pulled to the chin, a flick of the wrrist at the catch. Perhaps these are "bad." I prefer to think of them as distinctive. Fo...

Frank, Glad to be of service. I use several pairs in rotation, so that they have time to dry out. That way, I get a good nine months out of them before they become too brittle. A word of caution, though. If you fall in love with them, as I have, be sure to stock up before the winter months. It's a p...

Years ago somebody on the forum suggested using FootJoy WeatherSof golf gloves. I bought a pair -- it can occasionally be an adventure to find a right-handed one -- and I've been using them ever since. Like Frank, my problem is sweat more than blisters. And the FootJoys are thin enough that I don't ...

I got a good laugh out of the following, which is from Ed Hewitt's coverage of the ongoing US national trials on row2k.com ( http://www.row2k.com/worlds/features.cfm?ID=1137 ): And it [the day's racing] wasn't without the theater that can sometimes come from the almost neighborly familiarity that ma...

Alissa, let me apologize first of all for a mini-hijack of your thread. Johnyybike, I do like the Impressionists, so I'll keep an eye out for the shows. BBC series sometimes show up here in the US either on PBS or one of the cable channels, especially if they have a joint production arrangement. Let...

. . . BTW I saw Sisley's "Regattas at Molesey" in person in Orsay last week, when I was in Paris (not only) for business. Probably that's what got me confused about Eakins being a Brit? . . . Nacho, I knew of the Sisley because I also had a chance to see it in person. It's telling, I suppose, that ...

I was just about to post a link it myself.

Even if the scientists got it wrong on the role of lactic acid, the training we've been advised to do has been in the ballpark: endurance combined with interval work.
