primarily, yes. They are used to hold the stable platform for the leg drive with the lower back muscles. I don't mean to downplay that this section of the strong core is very effective. But so far as being responsible for continuing to accelerate the wheel, the stress on the abs should increase. Dur...

Question: How much layback do I aim for?
Answer: tough question to answer without showing. I would say its somewhere around 120 degrees if laying flat on your back is 180 degrees. I stop the instant my glute muscles start to tuck under. This may not be a good reference for everyone because many...

Don't worry too much about it, a 2k is not long enough to worry about direct pre race nutrition. What I mean by don't worry about it is don't feel pressured to eat anything in general. I would worry more about not eating before, better to race 2k distance on a too empty stomach than a too full one. ...

well maybe for one time there is no miracle pill for 10-20% improvement. But a combination of better training, diet, and supplementation of aminos, vitamins, and caffiene I would say that I have seen a 30% improvement in my scores over 4 years. You are right that there could be some cross contaminat...

Hey rob
I was referring to US supplements but you bring up a valid point that everywhere is not safe. I would say that standard protein powders and vitamins are still safe just about anywhere. But a lot of the stronger supplements that are meant specifially for performance enhancement not diet ...

any supplement could have anything in it cause the ingrediants are not regulated by the FDA. But I think that anything from a name brand company is 99.9% safe of banned substances regarding non-hormone supplements. The amount of caffiene that is allowed is pretty high, but I'm not exactly sure of th...

Give up Paul, john lives in never never land where only scientific possibility matters not real life results. I can see your point for manhattan, it is very expensive there. However, to have all the equipment I could ever want, plus to get me out of the house and get a more effective workout in, I would never give up a gym membership at my rate 20-30 dollars a month. I just think about how well my erg worko...

now, I don't want to call anybody cheap or undedicated or cause offense to anyone. But I don't understand why some people can afford the 800 dollar erg and not a gym membeship. How much do gyms around those of you who can't afford it cost per month? I know that all the gyms around me cost 20-30 doll...

I'm not going this year, but this has been a Crash-b rule since the beginning of time I believe. It just means you can't get in the volunteers way of taking the score or replace his/her postion. I always have plenty of coxswains for my races, its the only time when I have more coxswains then rowers ...

Hmmm, good question, you would probably get more answers if you asked about average paces for 500/m not too many rowers on here use watts and not many elite rowers use watts as their preformance feedback. I have no idea how it converts, I'll let you figure it, but John Rupps Hero does 1:40 avg/500m ...

He did on and off, but if you also remember he did row in college, had a trainer and coaches for the entire time that he checked in with and competed against others consistently throughout his career (once a month). He was really only alone in that he was not part of an organised team/training group...
