Re: Betty from Edson, Canada
Only on myself. I assume it would help with all of that as well as proprioception. It helps with coordination too I imagine. Its also an individual sport -no masking among teammates - and very numbers based - no touchy feely stats, numbers go up and down. There's lots of stats and tracking of abilit...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I know the approach is to go at a pace you can finish at and then all out at the end, but is there any reason for this apart from psychological? Say you did 4x1500 with 3 at 2:00 and one at 1:50, avg 1:57.5. Is that any difference going out harder with 3 at 1:55 and then tiring and finishing with a ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
On one hand, I was somewhat disappointed that my progress was not greater and I had hoped that 1k would be the next distance where I could soon dive under 2:00 splits, at least for the last rep. On the other hand, maybe I should accept that the huge beginner gains are over by now and that a 1 secon...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
So close to nailing my 2:25 consistency goal at 18 SPM. A nice easy row to get the heart pumping and the body moving. Longest row I've done by 500m and felt like I could have done 10k, although the HR was definitely drifting up Amazing consistency, well done. It's not something I am very good at an...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
My "body battery" is +3 charged and -40 drained. I'm not gonna even try to figure out what that means, or why it has two numbers. It's cumulative from what I understand. Say you started at 50. You had a short rest (+3) followed by a workout (-40). So now it's on 13 and you need to sleep to recharge...

You need to get yourself one of those new fangled smart watches. It would have told you that you needed a rest the day before!Dangerscouse wrote: ↑January 25th, 2025, 4:46 amI had an unplanned rest day yesterday as I just couldn't get out of bed, so it was a bit of a higher level than intended just to see how I react

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
When looking back, I noticed that I rowed at yesterdays pace of 2:25 once before, in week 5. And although it was only about half the distance, my average heart rate was 145 back than, versus 137 yesterday. It feels good to see such progress. Well done. I was wondering how you were doing after your ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Week 9.3. 8k. I think my new favourite session, and one that repeats a lot over the next few weeks Steady state plus as I call it. Not as scary as intervals. Not as boring as steady state and I can feel it in my legs after which makes it seem like I've done something useful. Decent session today. I ...

Re: Can you see anything that I need to change in this data?
Looks very good to me. Consistent splits, consistent stroke until the end where I assume you went for it a bit. You must be pretty fit to get that time after 3 weeks.
What training are you doing? A plan or 5k every few days?

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Thought I'd crack on with my "work harder" mindset all the same, so had planned to do 2:09 for as long as I could. (1hr pace target for now) Good job just getting it done, but I'm curious about your training. Are you picking a pace that you want to hold for an hour and holding it as long as you can...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I would do them at close to 2k pace, maybe 90% of the power, perhaps as submaximal 10 min tests. If you want to work on the stroke, i found r20 training helped significantly (although my high rates are not great at all) Yes, I think that's what I will do. If I can do 3x2000m at around 2-5k pace, I ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my understanding that day 2 is supposed to be the toughest session of the week. So I would interpret the above session as a full interval workout where you have to give in between 90 and 100%? Regarding pacing, I follow Nomark. It seems that as a beginner you have...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Just to play devil's advocate, and it may be better for more experienced rowers trying to eke out the last drop of performance, but I saw something on Justin Browns Instagram (jbrown1215 on here) that basically said if you don't fail occasionally then you aren't going hard enough. Essentially becaus...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Week 3.2 is the 2 x 2000m, r4. Pete says to try and pace this 2 seconds faster than the 6000m piece the day before. This put me at a slow target of 2:18 but who am I to argue. Interval pacing has never been my strong suit. I struggle a bit with the concept of longer intervals too. I know Pete says ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I don't have the greatest of lower backs, and mine was sore for my first 6 months of rowing fairly constantly, so I'd not be too worried about a one off if that's what this ends up being. However it might be a sign that either: You're rounding your lumbar spine a bit at the catch trying to over-rea...
