Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Week 15.1 10k. I decided to skip the optional interval training from last week and go ahead with the more useful SS workout. Went pretty well although was "comfortably" hard. 10k feels like a long way again, but I'll get there. I pushed a bit at the end to beat 45 mins but the rest was natural SS, n...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I wonder if you have any tips on erging in the heat (especially if even worse in Sep i need to hit 1:59 30r20 in the heat in blistering summer). I could try to use another fan to cool down but sometimes summers where I live has 90%+ relative humidity and 35-40C weather… I don't have any tips, but I...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Hello I just don't get why this plan gets so much attention and comments It says it's for beginners and intermediates, then starts everyone off on day 1 with 5000m. No help whatsoever on spm, or watts or split times i took one look at it and said that's rubbish, there are far better plans out there...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
5x800 2r - I did quite well (for me, anyway) on the recent 5x750 2r, so I was looking forward to this. Last time I increased my pace by 4s on the last rep, which told me that I didn't row the first reps hard enough. So this time I increased my pace by an additional 2s for the first two intervals, t...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
This is a great mindset. I always suffer a dip in fitness after a week off, and you're starting to lose fitness after three days, due to your body's efficiency to remove any metabolic loads that are deemed unnecessary. When doing the 4 x 2k, maybe set up the 2ks as 500m with no rests? Bite-sized ch...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
This might be the biggest issue that you're not addressing. Progress isn't linear, nor rapid, so you need to learn to love the process and not focus on progress. When you just enjoy doing what you're doing, you'll go much further than focusing on your progress at a granular level. Ain't that the tr...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
On Thursday evening I did Week 14.3 - 4x8minutes, 2 minutes rest. Skipped the 3x 2k hard session because I'm scared/ I need some more SS time to get my fitness back* *Delete as appropriate. It went as well as I could have hoped doing the reps at around 2:06- 2:09. In fact it went so well that I deci...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Back on the horse, after about 3 weeks off. A combination of working hard on some landscaping in the garden and lots of shifting and lifting, a minor cold that meant I wasn't feeling great for a few days and some beautiful weather that meant I'd rather be outside than in, along with general life mea...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
[This should become useful when I start to make up my own interval sessions, although honestly I'll probably just pick something from the BPP or PP that seems to fit my current level, which I'm thinking is any week with a ~10k SS session. I've been thinking ahead as well (because I'm impatient!) an...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
As a reference and comparison, August 2024 when it all started with a 2k trial. Wow! That is seriously impressive. 30r20 at the same pace as your all out 2k 16 weeks later. I bet you can't wait to do a 2k again at some point and really see what the improvement is. I've been off the erg for a few da...

Ditto this. It's a PB thread, not a WR one. CongratsDangerscouse wrote: ↑March 24th, 2025, 10:54 amCongratulations, and it doesn't matter where you comparw against others, only where you compare against yourself

Re: Tennis elbow and resuming activity
You may be right. It did feel like a massive uplift going from averaging 10-12k p/w to 20k+. It's not very helpful to point out now but the initial pain was probably your bodies way of warning you. I had some issues with my back due to the volume of the plan and (probably) issues with my stroke and...

Re: Tennis elbow and resuming activity
I don't have any direct experience but it may be that the BPP was too much too soon for the tendons in your arm. There's some useful threads on the subject linked below. Unfortunately they seem to suggest rest in the first place, but a proper medical opinion might be better in this case rather than ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Week 14.1 10k. I thought about 13.5 but didn't mainly because I'm scared of doing 3x2000m at 2:00. Only half joking. Seriously because I think SS is more beneficial for me right now and also week 14.2 is 3x2000m and I don't see the point of doing it twice so closely together (unless something untowa...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I don't put too much weight on it, but a vacation will be welcome. And hopefully I can then resume the plan with lots of energy (and hopefully not too much lost fitness) upon my return. And meantime I will undoubtedly continue to follow the updates here. Before I went on holiday in February I had a...
