Best seat pad?
In the last few weeks, I have found that my gluteals start to ache after about 5k - it's not a cramp, but is unpleasant enough that I end up leaning forward just before the catch, to take the weight briefly off my seat. When that stops working, I take a break then resume. I already have a seatpad, t...
Re: Vo2 max
I'm confident that you have a lot more in common with a 21yo man than I did..... Apart from my highly tuned ability to lie motionless on a sofa.....
Re: Vo2 max
Yeah, I had a polar watch about 20 years ago, which performed some kind of fitness assessment which iirc, involved lying on a sofa for 20 minutes without moving. It graded me as something like a fit 20yo man at the time.

Re: Vo2 max
I used both the calculator and the chart on the concept 2 website.
My best recent 2k was 8.43, but isn't my best event.
I don't plan to test again until I finish the BPP, hopefully in late October.

Vo2 max
I'm a bit confused about VO2 max; Mine is "average" for my age (approx 30ish, 61yo F) But my rowing level is apparently "advanced", bordering on "elite" at some distances. Is VO2 somehow not as important as in other sports? (seems highly unlikely), or are there just very few women my age rowing/ergi...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Personal best heart rate of 164 😂. Highest I'd seen recently was 154; the 164 came at the end of 5x750m/2min rest, ie BPP W14D2. It was 100% effort in that moment, but all had been done at 21spm, DF 100 (still trying to rehab a sloppy technique), so I'm certain that it's still not the true maximum. ...

This thread from a few weeks ago has some discussion about the benefits of the PM5 over older monitors, that you might find informative.

Re: Thoughts on tall vs. standard legs--
I bought my erg second-hand, it happens to be a model E ie long legs; it was the only one available locally when I was looking. I'm 61, no mobility issues, and not especially tall (176cm), but I love the extra height. I'd say that if you can afford it, go for the long legs. If budget is a considerat...

Re: Comparing efficiency at different stroke rates
A little further googling turned up this: https://www.rathburn.net/rowing/training/Wolverine%20Erg%20Tables.pdf Note these are the tables from the original training aid I prepared for the UM team, but are not the updated/expanded tables I later developed including odd stroke rates (17-19-21-23-25 s...

Re: Comparing efficiency at different stroke rates
Some of this thread is going over my head, but I appreciate the discussion. Looking at it another way, I've just done 10k in 47 minutes, @18spm = 846 strokes. If I could maintain the same power at 19spm, those 846 strokes would have taken 44min,31.6 seconds. Converting pace 2.20.9 to watts gives 125...

Re: Comparing efficiency at different stroke rates
Try MCs L4 tables, they're very effective. The roughly constant factor is Work: force x length. These are surprisingly difficult to track down - none of the links in archived forum threads work for me. I eventually found them buried in the website of a UK rowing club, but they may have been updated...

Re: Comparing efficiency at different stroke rates
Yes. At a higher stroke rate, one doesn't need to pull so hard, to achieve the same rate. I was asking what rate could reasonably be predicted if one pulled equally hard, but more often.
