You know, 20km on the water is not as hard you’d think.
The north wind laughs an evil laugh. :o
Haha, as I was writing that I was thinking of a particularly brutal 10k row against the wind. It was not much fun!😂. Survival more than rowing I think! Definitely not pretty.

Re: English Indoor Rowing Championships

Be great if you could get on board Anthony, it looks like there's a few team members going. Slightly off topic, I lived in York for a few years, watched a lot of rowing on the Ouse (assuming you mean this one, I think there is a river Ouse in the south, too). Either way, a half marathon on the wate...

Re: English Indoor Rowing Championships

Thanks for posting Alex, I’m keen. I’m rowing a half marathon on the river Ouse on Sunday 7th so will need to have a think about the logistics before committing.

Re: Newbie here - how does Rowerg work in conjunction to ergdata, logbook and PM5

You need to make sure your phone is connected to pm5. Open the app and tap ‘ connect to erg’. To ensure you’ve hit the right erg (in case your in a gym’ you can press connect on the pm5 , and it will display the number. Once your phone and pm5 are tethered, all metres get logged. You can set up work...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Well done with the 30r20! A painful one (aren't they all?!). I would only do 600 strokes exactly personally. A different kind of pain for me today, but I managed a 2K PB by 4.2s, with a time of 6:41.4. I'm a bit gutted not to get sub 6:40 but considering I didn't taper at all for it (136km week and...

Re: Critique my stroke / rate question

Looks good, could be made a bit flowing and less jerky, that will come with time. Only other thing to mention on top of all above adobe, if you’re going to be rowing OTW, try to iron out the bouncing into the catch. That habit will kill boat speed. If not then it’s irrelevant on the erg. :)

I will eventually add a fan to help. For the moment, I still can cope as long as temperatures remain in low 30s. Oh I completely agree, the percentages are completely arbitrary. It’s just one of those analogies I picked up in life that spurs me on when things are getting tough! :)

Re: How fast can I go?

Great points. Like I said, an interesting subject. And a very complex one. My point on training the mind comes from some training programs I did when I was serving. How true it is I don’t know, but was told that a human will only push itself to 5% of actual ability where a horse will go to destructi...

Re: How fast can I go?

How deep into the pain cave you can go, or are willing to go is an interesting concept to me. I have done many grim erg sessions with other rowers in the last 6 months where me and one or two others are flopping round after, can’t speak, legs like jelly and knowing we’ve just given our all. Then the...

Re: 30R20

I did it! Hurrah! 8010m. Decided to have an early go (ahead of my ChatGPT training schedule!) and take advantage of the cooler weather in the UK at the moment. Thanks all for your advice! It definitely helped :) Amazing result. My best was 8056 and was one of the hardest erg sessions I’ve ever done...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Marathon PB by accident. It all started with "do it for the pin". I opted for the average pace of my FM I did nearly 2 years ago, so went with 2:02.x. Halfway done I thought I could ramp up the pace, as I did in the first one as well and see how that goes. No intentions for a massive PB, as strengt...

Re: Warming up and cooling down

Hard to answer as everyone is different. I believe it’s quite psychological aswell as physiologically important. I never used to warm up but I guess age finally caught up with me and I find I need to! In my experience, if I attempt a 2k best effort with no warm up it’s utterly horrendous and I get n...
