Putting Fastest Rowers in 2V and 3V to win Medals
Is there any regulation preventing the purposefully incorrect placement of rowers in racing boats? This idea was brought up by a teammate, and it very clearly seems to be a form of cheating to me, so there must be some form of official rule at regattas to prohibit this, right? For example, instead o...

Re: Is my coach's Training Plan too cruel?
There is a substantial difference between a team not having a specific ambition, and having a bad attitude. A bad team attitude is having the ambition to win races, but not put the effort in. Yes, and this is exactly how the team tends to operate. We collectively want to push to perform well at com...

Is my coach's Training Plan too cruel?
There's been a growing concern on my team with my coach's training plan, which reached a head this week. To preface, we are not a high-performing team at the competitive level, having only 28 rowers, and often place close to last at regattas. However, we are at our fastest in three years with this y...

Re: Proper Foot Stretcher Position, Footplate Height and Angle
The usual rule of thumb is that your ankle bones are in line with the monorail. The strap goes over where your toes bend on your shoes. This Concept2 video explains everything: https://youtu.be/4zWu1yuJ0_g I’m aware of proper placement on the erg, but this pertains to the boat specifically since th...

Proper Foot Stretcher Position, Footplate Height and Angle
I’ve been searching high and low for a consensus on what proper foot stretcher and plate placement is, and I’ve had no luck. I’m the tallest person in my sweeping 8 (which is overall a short boat) and I sit in 4 seat. Despite this, I struggle to get length at the catch. Today, I was told it was like...

Rowing Faster on Water than on Erg?
I’m aware that, most of the time, rowers pull faster times on the erg than on the water. Something I’ve noticed recently is that a couple of girls on my team do incredible on water seat races (in which two boats race, switch two girls, then race again to see which girl moves the boat faster). These ...
Re: 5K Pacing
There's a helpful pacing calculator found here that helps me calculate my goal times: https://ergrowing.com/2k-erg-power-profile-calculator/ ; I think you could hit a 2:04 average if you pushed yourself. Depending on your height, your 2k stroke rate could be a little faster if you want an accurate c...

Re: Row / Erg in morning vs evening performance
Aside from what’s been said, I would suggest it has to do with lower energy in the morning and your muscles not being adequately warmed up. If you’re not eating simple carbs about 30 minutes before your workout, you probably won’t be feeling the same energy as you would after a few meals. In the sam...

Re: Bulking/Cutting for Beginner (Female)
Thanks Glenn! I have been talking to people who do bodybuilding about gaining muscle, and maybe that’s just led to more confusion in the end. I’ll definitely look into those sources! I appreciate this a lot.

Re: Bulking/Cutting for Beginner (Female)
Also, and apologizes for the unsolicited advice, but if you are aiming at a recomp, be aware that too low of body fat can be detrimental to your health. If you find that your menstrual cycles are getting irregular and you are missing periods, that's a sign to go speak with a doctor. No sorry necess...

Re: Bulking/Cutting for Beginner (Female)
This is super helpful! Ultimately I just need to gain muscle since my squat is super low and I’ve heard bulking/cutting is effective. I’m squatting 100 lbs less than girls getting the same numbers as me, and I can’t really understand why. I assumed it was attributed to muscle, but if you have any re...

Bulking/Cutting for Beginner (Female)
I've been rowing and lifting with my rowing team for about a year and a half now with no prior athletic experience, so I apologize in advance for my lack of understanding. We've just completed our fall season and are about to transition to individual training for about 8 weeks. I'm wanting to drop m...
