SkiErg for upper body muscle gain and toning muscles?
Hi all, I am mostly a cyclist and rower. Cycling is completely lower body, Rowing is in average rather lower body than upper. Strength Training is not my favorite and I struggle to stay motivated working the iron on a regular basis. I do PushUps and PullUps rather regularly, but feel I need a more r...

Re: What is a proper workout?
thx, i am already a fine rower, technique ok, all is set. I just feel bad going below any kind of training lasting less than 45min, even hard interval workouts I prolong at low intensity until I reach 45min or 10k.
is that necessary? do you guys really do shorter workouts?

What is a proper workout?
Hi, I am coming from a cycling background where a workout can easily last min 1h to 4hours. Indoor Rowing is my 2nd and soon probably 1st sport. Now: What is a proper workout for rowing? At this point I feel that everything less than 10k or 45min is a waste and does not have an effect. This is most ...

Re: Do you change your grip position during workouts?
it is the latter. I am very sure about my technique, and also quite sure that after 20+ years of cycling being almost my only sports my legs are quite more fit than my arms/shoulder could be.

Re: Do you change your grip position during workouts?
thank you for all the input. I will eventually not include changing grip position into the training. Seems not to make sense or even include risk of injury. If I want to train forearms, shoulders, biceps or whatever, I do specific exercises for these muscles. The rower is not to train any of these m...

Re: Do you change your grip position during workouts?
thanks for your input. I am just wonderig, why the technique gets spoiled so much just by having the palms facing upwards. Also, why would that be a weird motion for the body. Having palms up pulling something to the body is quite a natural movement, isnt i?

Re: Training without data
I am now still wearig a HR belt but am specifically not looking at the HR data. I am trying to listen to my body and not think about the data. Then, after workouts I am using the data to track my efforts.

Do you change your grip position during workouts?
Hi, I am wondering, if some of you change the grip positin during workouts, so switching the palm facing down to u, maybe even holding the handle sideways. Why? I would like to give the arms different triggers, give different training effects to biceps and shoulder/lower/upper arms. Does this make s...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I was looking at the PP several times and did some of the workouts just out of curiosity. Then again I am surprised about the rather long breaks and rests... 3:30min, 5min seems like ages to me... does this not harm the training effect? Do some if you shorten these rest periods?

How do you track your workouts over the years? what site?
Hi,
what site or portal do you keep your data on? So far I used Garmin, but it is not enough rowing oriented.
Any suggestions for a good site or way to collect my workouts and data?
What data do you find relevant anyway? Split time, watts, HR, spm?

Re: Cant reach my max HR
What approach have you taken to trying to hit your max HR on the erg? Earlier I did intervals or a race pace 2k format. Recently I went for a ramp test I found here on this forum. 1min intervals starting (after warmups) at 2:15min splits, raising speed by 2sec every 1min until fainting :) I made it...

Re: Cant reach my max HR
The intervals you mention are well over 2k distance, so need not be done at race rates around 30. But the stroke should be in proportion to your height and weight as to force and length. Interesting point. I did not think about it this way. So you suggest I should settle on lower spm with more watt...

Re: Cant reach my max HR
Rowing is almost full body, so it's easy to overload the CV system. Now thinking more about this I realize that it is maybe more my problem that I cant physically breath anymore on the rower at certain intensity than a maxHR problem. Sometimes at higher spm I feel my lunges implode and due to the b...

Re: Training without data
very interesting, i am quite surprised how many of you work out without HR. Actually it encourages me since my gut feeling has been similar as many of you mention here.
