Re: Increase pace or reduce rest?
Personally, I wear a heart-rate monitor and rest until my heart rate falls below 100 before starting the next interval. You can set this up on the PM5 or ErgData by selecting "undefined rest time." As you get fitter, wouldn't you expect the rest period to decrease (ie your heart rate would drop mor...

Re: Increase pace or reduce rest?
"Increase pace" means going slower, so you should decrease the pace (but increase the speed). Increasing the pace of something is to speed it up, not slow it down. What you're referring to is the measure of pace - a lower number happens to refer to an increased pace. But increasing the pace is what...

Increase pace or reduce rest?
I'm working on trying to improve my speed, with the aim of getting back to a sub 8min 2k (best ever was a 7:20, but that was 20 years ago!). I've started a new regime of 2 'steady state' rows per week (10k at around 2:15 pace), plus 2 sets of 6 * 1k intervals at increasing pace (so starting at 2:08 ...

Re: Heart rate confusion!
No worry, any heart rate will do. However if a beginner, to get it up you need to learn how rowing is done. You possibly missed my post just a couple up - I'm new to the HR monitor, not to rowing And whilst I'm appreciative of all the advice, I'm still none the wiser on what the definition of UT2 i...

Re: Heart rate confusion!
Just go with what Pete advises, he never used HR. That's one of the issues - Pete doesn't really give much help in the way of pacing. The general consensus seems to be that for longer rows you should either 'be able to hold a conversation', or train in UT2. Not having a HR monitor, I went with the ...

Re: Heart rate confusion!
As I say, I've no idea which is correct, but that's why it's spitting out those numbers! Yes, that looks like what is happening. So I suppose the question is :- Is UT2 55 to 70 % of your maximum HR (as the Polar app would suggest) Is UT2 55 to 70% of the difference between resting and max HR, plus ...

Heart rate confusion!
I've just been given a heart rate monitor (Polar - no idea of the model) but have downloaded the app and it seems to work OK. However, not ever having used one before, I'm now a bit confused about what HR I should be training at. I'm doing the BPP and picked a pace of 2:20 for my 'slow and steady' p...

Re: Wrong default date in log
The response you'll get is that the server runs on EST/EDT and that's the way it is. You're going to have to learn to live with that like the rest of the world does. Just keep your PM5 on your local timezone and ensure your log has a correct timezone setting. Bear in mind it's worse for the Kiribat...

Re: Wrong default date in log
Don't change your workouts, just live with them being recorded at an odd time of day. Not just the wrong time of day, it's the wrong date Not heard of that issue from other Oz ergers. Maybe @aussie nick or Lindsay will be back along soon and can throw some light. Or you can click on your profile in...

Wrong default date in log
I've been using the Concept2 Log on and off for many years now. However, I've recently started to try and be a bit more 'serious' and am following the Beginner Pete Plan, and am logging all of my rows. What I'm noticing is that when logging a row in the morning (I'm in Australia) I have to manually ...
