Can you say a little more about this? Because that’s pretty similar to my recent 2k pb (8:39.4) and I’m 68kg. I’m pretty sure my technique isn’t *perfect*

Re: Rowing for weight loss question
I see that the formulas posted do use the number 300 as some sort of offset: True Calories/hour burned = Calories on the PM - 300 + (1.714 * weight) However, I would still dispute that “300cal just for being alive” bit. If one burns 300cal/hr just for being alive, then one has a BMR of 7200, which ...

Re: Rowing for weight loss question
I’m not sure where you got that 300 for just being alive number and maybe it’s true. It's from information C2 provides on the web site. For example, see the links below for more details: https://www.concept2.com/training/calorie-calculator https://www.concept2.com/blog/counting-calories So I just p...

Re: Rowing for weight loss question
The Concept 2 calorie count gives you 300 cal/hr just for being alive. If you subtract that, you get a reasonable (but still coarse) estimate of net calories burned from exercise. So your hour is probably 350 net calories burned. That's a pound of fat every ten days -- if you don't increase your in...

Re: Rowing for weight loss question
I have lost 90lbs (from 245lbs down to 155lbs) since January 2023, and I would attribute a large part of my success to being consistent with the erg. As you say, it’s all down to keeping your “calories in” < “calories out”. Eating less than you burn. That said, as long as you are tracking accurately...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Hey guys, I decided to chase a new pb for 6k this morning - my old one was from last June (woefully outdated - I’ve come a long way since then) New one: Splits Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 28:09.8 6,000m 2:20.8 125 731 20 172 4:43.2 1,000m 2:21.6 123 724 20 160 4:43.0 2,000m 2:21.5 124 725 20 1...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks for all your messages, guys. <3 I have found this community to be a huge source of inspiration, encouragement, information, and support these last 8 months and I am so grateful for it. I look forward to putting in some more meters this new year ahead, but today I am planning on being a loaf i...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Hey all, Another PB by default - my first FM. :) I stopped every 30 minutes for about 30-45 seconds to drink/eat a bite - some of the slower splits happened to have two stops in them - hard to pull the average pace back down for those. Again, I know I don’t compare to all you fast guys, but I’m prou...

Re: Endurance erging - A place to discuss 42, 50, 100k upwards.
Ive been reading this thread with interest for a while now. After I finished the BPP, I decided to start aiming for building up to a marathon. Over the past few weeks, I've been doing one long row on Saturday (I just don't have time either before or after work during the week, unfortunately, to put ...

Re: Talk to me about drag factor
Your machine might need a good cleaning to improve the range of drag factor it can do. You’ll have to disassemble the flywheel housing and clean out all the dusty crud inside - plenty of videos around on YouTube with step by step instructions.

Re: Will the real Zone 2 please stand up!
Just clarifying - ut2 and zone 2 are not necessarily referring to the same thing, is that correct? My understanding is that the bottom end of ut2 may have some overlap with zone 2 but also may go over the upper boundary sometimes into zone 3ish. Please correct me if I don’t have that right.

So this is by default a pb because it’s my first one, but today I did a half marathon! Woot! Re: Beginner - can you check my technique?
From what I understand, dropping arms is a carry over from OTW rowing. I think the C2 is optimized for keeping the chain level. True, bc you have to lower your hands to lift the oar out of the water. Low hands also keeps you from rushing on the recovery, since you need to get your hands past your k...

Re: Consistent Splits
This was a total mystery to me too until I found the display screen that shows both your average pace and the average pace for the particular split you’re on. Adjusting based on the averages makes it possible to dial into a precise pace every time.
