Re: earphones and hearing concerns
I have noise cancelling earbuds (bluetooth) that I got for like $25 on amazon, they cancel noise by physically blocking out sound with the silicone ear piece that goes into the ear canal. No issues hearing.

Re: Ruck rowing
Not a ruck rower but the only thing it would really be doing is adding weight, which makes pushing from your legs more difficult. The only thing with that is, you can already push harder from your legs since the difficulty is determined by how hard you personally decide to push horizontally, not eg ...

Re: Knee pain after 500k this month
I think overcompression at the catch is my issue, it's not hard for me to be within a foot or less of my heels when I pull up, although my shins are vertical. If that's the case, your biomechanics are at a weak position at the catch. Vertical shins with a steep knee angle means your hips need to mo...

Re: Knee pain after 500k this month
Stop the slide at 40-50cm from your heels, if necessary with a rope tied round the rail to act as a frontstop, so that the knee angle at the catch is >45°. I suggest a small piece of tape on the top of the rail, as it won't disrupt your stroke when you hit it, but you'll feel it under your seat. I ...

Knee pain after 500k this month
Hi all, I'm competing in the Taji100 this month and so am doing a lot of UT2 SS to get my miles up. It's been a lot of fun, although one thing I didnt anticipate was the amount of knee pain I'm experiencing - it's not a whole lot, just a soreness / discomfort usually towards the end of the piece and...

Re: How to get better on the erg
Not sure if this is accurate in general but theres something to be said about having just started puberty so your muscles have really just started seriously developing, which means you'll get stronger over time automatically.

Re: Endurance erging - A place to discuss 42, 50, 100k upwards.
What sort of stuff do you guys and gals do for the hard workouts? I know some here do solely UT2 with a lot of time behind it, others do a mix of long form SS and something sharper, just wondering how sharp on average. Especially for extreme endurance. We talking 8x500 500W intervals or like AT work...

Adding in sprints to the end of a SS workout
I usually do 5-6 days a week of a 1h row at around 2:18, standard UT2 for me. Periodically I'll throw in an AT workout, which currently is 3x7'/4'r or a UT1 workout which is 35 minutes at a higher intensity. It's really based on how I feel but I'll do 1 or 2 of those per week. I'm someone who likes ...

Re: YouTube Workout Results vs Mine Aren't the Same
Misunderstanding here between SPM and pace - the reason the workout doesn't ascribe a specific pace (but rather SPM - think gears on a bike) is because everyone can do the same rhythm, but not the same pace. A 5k at 20 minutes is a 2:00/500 split, you were at a 2:37 (calculator here https://www.conc...

Re: Training specific - how was your 2023?
I started rowing in April of 2023 and have made a lot more physiological progress in that time than I ever have in 10 years of running - rowing really speaks to me. I did a lot of LSD this year to get my aerobic base up to snuff (probably 98% or more of my total distance which is now 1.3m) and now I...

Re: help Shortie!
Been asking that same question myself since I started, let me give you my 2c. Most people who exercise do so casually, a smaller percentage take it seriously, and an even smaller group make an account on a forum dedicated to a specific type of workout equipment / exercise, usually for competition. Y...

Re: Diminishing returns on UT2 / general SS work in one session
How much UT2 did you incorporate into your training if any? I'm surprised to hear yall doing nearly 200k a month of UT1, I don't think I'd be able to recover from that very well Id have to work it out but for instance WK1, day 1- 100k Plan 4x15mins split into 2x7.5min sectors, at 85 and 80% HRmax v...

Re: Diminishing returns on UT2 / general SS work in one session
A lot of really great discussion in there that I am personally learning from. It makes a lot of sense that you are not going to train for a FM or longer by doing close or or beyond those distances; it's just not practical at all. I am curious as to what the consensus here is when it comes to "base"...

Re: Diminishing returns on UT2 / general SS work in one session
For me probably 80k a week UT2 which would have been 16k r20 sessions. The remainder would be mainly UT1 and AT. Never did any speed work until 3 or 4 weeks before a race. So here's something I've been struggling with lately, this is the approach I would like to take but I'm told that this approach...

Re: Diminishing returns on UT2 / general SS work in one session
Hi Glenn, I was 48 when at my peak (2005) and am 67 next. I had a bit of an interruption to training due to bowl cancer and symptoms when I was 49/50 which knocked me back a tad. Then moved to China in 2008. I was still doing double sessions up until I was 54 without any recovery problems. I only d...
