Re: English Indoor Rowing Championships

Be great if you could get on board Anthony, it looks like there's a few team members going. Slightly off topic, I lived in York for a few years, watched a lot of rowing on the Ouse (assuming you mean this one, I think there is a river Ouse in the south, too). Either way, a half marathon on the water...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Aw man; it's happened to all of us before. Some days the mind/body just aren't in sync. Have you done other "predictor" sessions recently that tell you sub-6:20 is achievable right now (assuming that was your target)? Not true predictors as such, I'm a firm believer that the best predictor is to ju...

Re: Pete's Plan Spreadsheet

Just my $0.02 worth, which can be dismissed I could care less....I followed the lunch hour plan pretty much to the letter a year ago. I went 6:31 prior to starting the plan, after 4 months or so of my own unstructured approach to training. Granted I was a good club level runner a few years back, so ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Are the English races in person? Used to be at the Manchester velodrome. That was my last race back in 2013 I think. July challenges not for me either. Apparently so, on Saturday 6th September at the Bolton Arena alongside a CrossFit competition. I'll pop a link up in the Competition threads when e...

Re: Programming for 500m sprint

Thank you for answers! So should I keep doing these 5x5 and 3x20 with high heart rate and eventually take a week off and then „reset” wattages if I stall? Maybe I should add some lighter work like 1x35min after my 5x5mins erg as a steady session? My height is 187 cm and weight is 96 kg at the momen...

Re: Programming for 500m sprint

The above link is an old thread, but a lot of input from sprinters/more experienced erg'ers than me. At 24 and a solid starting point, you could really make some progress. How tall are you? Bodyweight?

Re: Programming for 500m sprint

Thank you for your reply! My 3x20 isn’t as much a steady state I think beacuse at the end of each my heart rate go up to about 170bpm… (I’m 24 so it’s about 87% of HR max at the end) For comparison, my heart rate was 174 beats per minute at the end of the 500m test. The 220-age formula to determine...

I think I would've attacked this one multiple times :)
This thought has never once entered my mind  but I owed myself another attempt to tighten up the splits. Neglected to mention my hamstrings cramped up during my ten minutes cool down, been some years since I experienced that...

Re: Programming for 500m sprint

Are you using a Concept Erg? If so, 1:25 is good going on a little rowing experience, I'd assume your strength is carrying you through this effort. The 500m is more aerobic than the average gym go-er appreciates, so you would no doubt benefit from a "bigger engine". Sprint training is hard on the bo...
