Re: First 5k - help with race plan/goals

I did a 6k recently instead of a 5k and I was really happy with how it went so I thought I would post here, because why not. Goal was 2:12 splits which is 3 seconds lower than my 5k split avg (2:15) I averaged a 2:11.7/500m for my 6k split which means I could definitely do 2:10 or lower for a 5k, an...

World Indoors - tips, suggestions, etc

Training for my first World Indoors. Any tips for training plans or tapering, etc?

And, what to expect on race day? Any suggestions or tips there as well?

Anything at all is helpful as I'm pretty lost - it will be my first indoor erg competition. Best of luck to all competing!

Re: First 5k - help with race plan/goals

Nice. Good baseline. Thanks for posting. Is your season Aug to October ? If you end up doing another 5K please update this thread... it'll be interesting to see how much faster you are. So we finally did another 5k on the erg yesterday, and I was able to drop a good chunk of time...I looked over th...

Double recommendations? Juniors/HS club racing

My club is looking to fundraise to purchase a new racing double. As we are trying to decide what brand and model we would like to buy, I thought I would see what everyone recommends. We usually race Vespolis for fours (don't have the numbers for eights, but we do practice in Vespoli eights) but we h...

Re: First 5k - help with race plan/goals

Thanks everyone for the help! I did the 5k this weekend, and it was definitely harder than everyone (my teammates) said it would be. I feel I could have started out a bit stronger since I had to try and make up for it at the end, but I had a 2:20 average and a final time of 23:25. I'm ok with that s...

First 5k - help with race plan/goals

My high school club team has our first 5k test in the next few days and we haven't been given any race plan help or instruction. I rowed this spring and I can race plan for a 2k, but I've never done a 5k and don't know how to pace for it or write a race plan. I've tried to find articles online but t...

Re: Female high school rower - 2k question

Is your 2k time recent or from the spring season? A 8:29 2k will come out to splits of ~2:07. Steady state of "under 2:30" is going to come out to a pace of 2k+22 (or faster). I can land there if I'm feeling really good, but 2k+25-30 is a bit more normal. I wonder if you're trying to hit it a hair ...

Re: Female high school rower - 2k question

I've started lifting a few times a week and erging/biking/running. Everyone is telling me to do steady state to drop my 2k but that does not seem to be working, and I hate erging so it is hard to find the motivation to erg for a long time as opposed to run or lift when I go to the gym. When I do er...

Re: Female high school rower - 2k question

Sorry if the original post was confusing. What I meant was, we train 6 days a week from mid-august to late October, then in the spring from early march until late may or mid-june, but we usually train on the water for 4 or 5 of the 6 days but then one or two days a week are devoted to erging. The li...

Female high school rower - 2k question

I am a 5'9" 140lb, 16y/o female who rows on a club team. My 2k is 8:29 and my pr for a 500 is a 1:59 but my most recent 500 test was a 2:02. I have only been rowing for one season. I also swim competitively in the winter and used to play soccer, until I quit soccer for rowing. My on-water rowing is ...
