Managed another one hour row today, still trying to teach myself to row slower in preparation for my marathon training.
This seems daft, I’ve got to teach myself to row slowly but if I don’t get into the habit of rowing more slowly in training, then I’ll just burn out.

Re: how to row slower
Well, had a go yesterday, kept the damper in my usual number 3 position, started off with the monitor set so that i could watch the power curve. (yes its all happening over at my place). anyways, when i dropped off my effort a bit in an attempt to slow things down, i the power curve was pretty ragge...

Re: how to row slower
thanks all, no doubt some good and varied advice there. my only slight reservation, that when i row slower say 20 spm, i seem to go faster but i feel that i am relying more on strength, which is not really sustainable over longer distances. Im looking for the rowers equivalent of what I used to do w...

Re: how to row slower
so do i need to lower the damper setting, it is already low at around 3, which seems comfortable to me, i seem to produce my best times rowing at around 20 - 22 spm on that setting but i am trying to "retrain" myself to work at a slightly higher SR but without working too hard, so i can sustain it f...

how to row slower
OK, I accept that I already row quite slowly, Im 60 yo male and only 65kg and at 5'5" Im not set to break any recods but I kind of compete against myself and use the C2 to keep me in shape. So far so good it seems to be working well. Anyway, I will be doing a HM soon and then build up to a full M. M...

Re: Longest row pre half marathon.
Some interesting answers thanks. Fwiw I’ve done a few half and full marathon runs and the training structure seems a bit similar. There is one main difference though, when training for a long running race, the pace is always slower in the long runs. With rowing it seems that you need to train at sim...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Longest row to date 15000mts as build up for half m.
The longer sessions are getting easier now
Sr 20 sub 2:19 per 500mts (yes I know it’s slow but I’m old and a short @rse)

Longest row pre half marathon.
Hello again, Another newbie question. I know there are plenty of plans and online recommendations to work up to half marathons but I’m trying to swerve these and keep things super simple. So having listened to good advice here, I’m now increasing my training sessions in time and distance and I’m now...

Re: How to make it easier?
“10 meters per stroke was once a basic guideline“ That sounds like a pretty good rule of thumb to follow. I feel that even I could manage that work rate in training and although I’d find it tough to increase the distance per stroke, if I can increase the rate then I’ll be getting more distance that ...

Re: First 5k - help with race plan/goals
I’m pretty new to this but at the other end of the spectrum, as I’m nearly 60 and you are just 16. So for me I’m happy to improve a tiny bit at a time. I suspect at your age, you’ll master it easily and you’ll improve in large chunks. It’s really good to see that you’re pacing yourself. That’s a dis...

Re: How to make it easier?
Thanks James, encouraging words. I’m not sure I understand the relevance of stroke ratio/distance. Does this mean that I can train myself to cover more distance if I increase the rate. Given that you said 1200r to 1300k is good going? Problem that I seem to be having is I don’t necessarily improve o...

Re: How to make it easier?
I’m beginning to realise that more time on the c2 is most likely going to be the answer. I did my second longer row tonight 60 minutes gor me just shy if 13000 mts. It seems to be coming together a bit now. My logos is that if I can keep that pace for a half m I’ll be on to my target time of sun 1:4...

Re: How to make it easier?
All great advice thanks everybody. So today I intentionally lowered the pace, was tired anyways and just wanted a short session. Did 30 mins at circa 19sr kept a close eye on my hr too which I managed to keep under 80% of my max, which for me is good because my heart rate climbs pretty fast usually....

Re: How to make it easier?
Yes, agreed, training always a good thing. I’ve practiced that over the years in my cycling and running, it usually pays off. Always good to make sure you’re doing the right type of training though. Hence my question on pacing etc. Reason for my post was to seek advice on training in this discipline...
