Re: 30R20
Apologies for continuing to hyjack your thread Neil - but I can't help myself! So I had another go at the rating thing - and I think both Sascha and I are correct in what we suggested. Today I tried 398 strokes - gave r20; and 397 strokes gave r19. But I think its more subtle than I realised...

Just a guess - I think the mentioned possible shock cord differences have higher influence.lazy_rower wrote: ↑June 21st, 2025, 10:29 am(And yes, I am familiar with arguments around the shock cord. Please don't go there.)

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Programmed 60min and thought this should work, but after half I felt weak and it got uncomfortable. Probably the skierg session yesterday had more effect on me than I thought. Re: 30R20
I often see that the end screen of the PM5 (when you have not pressed the menu button for saving yet) shows a finish time, which then is rounded up by a tenth of a second in the log, when you pressed menu to store it. But I never saw that this stored time in the PM5 differed from the log in the log...

Skierg, 3x15min 2:30r. Slowly getting the distance up on the skierg. Still as interval session, but longer intervals and shorter rests. Tried to stay below 80% HR max, achieved this with being at 77-78%. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M ♥️ 45:00.0 10,826 2:04.6 180 921 40 144 15:00.0 3,605 2:04.8 1...

Re: Aerobic base training metric: meters-per-beat
If I would train slightly below or at twice my resting HR, I would only be allowed to take a walk. My resting HR is 50 or below, depending on my recovery state. When I take a walk at normal speed, ~11min per km, my HR average is about 85. I typically do long sessions on the rower at HR ~135 with no...
Re: 30R20
This time stopped after the last 15s counter stroke What do you mean with the bold marked part? You stopped rowing 15s before the 10min timer elapsed? That could be different to rowing until the end with the same amount of strokes. Yes exactly that. Erging at r20 accurately is easyish given the 1 s...
Re: 30R20
I am quite sure, that the PM5 rounds that way, as I failed a challenge exactly due to this problem. I managed to have the exact same data shown on the PM5 for two different intervals, but with two different rates. That means the PM5 used digits to calculate you can't even see on the PM5. And ErgDat...
Re: 30R20
And probably no need to worry about it. To be in the true sense of the challenge, its 600 strokes and IMO that's your target. But the way the PM is programmed it rounds down. r21 would be 630. 629 or less will give you an r20 in the result. I've seen an elite rower taking advantage of that to max h...

Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).
I can learn a few things from it, particularly that I am close to my maximum Watt output with 330 W (1:42). I do not think I can produce so many Watts to go under 1:40 on a 500m TT. I may attempt it but I won't insist as I am better fitted for a 5k. For a 500m rating is a vital part. Increasing the...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Another workout in the books and it felt quite decent. 4x10min, 3:30r on the kierg, as this seems to be better with less compression. This was after a ~16h fast, unusual for me, but worked well. As food gives me some pressure on the gut, it seemed to be a good approach to go for it before eating. Ti...

Re: Critique my stroke / rate question
Agree to mates above, stroke seems fine and most obvious things you are already aware of. I would try to solve the back rounding and turn that into a more flat and stable back position, pivoting more from the hips, as this gives a stronger catch position and better levers. Breaking arms early can le...
