Re: technical issues, right schoulder?
My take is you're going legs, arms, back. The handle is at your knees but your back is still straight. Seems like too much use of, pressure on your arms. Maybe two-thirds of the stroke is just arms. Your back is only involved at the end. Arms do work after legs and around half of hip swing/back. The...

Re: Which heart rate monitor
The chest straps have one major problem. Where I live has a hot, humid climate. The sweat from each workout makes short work of the rubber and it soon starts splitting. Even tiny splits affect it. So you get dropouts and incorrect readings. Giving them a good wash each time makes little difference. ...

I use the Vibram FiveFingers KSO EVO. Lightweight and comfortable. Very flexible, you can fold them in half in your hand.

Re: Strategies for the aging athlete
The simplest way to check max HR is use 220-½ Age, then test it, since it's an average that can be up to 10% (2 x SD) off. That's bang on for me. Max HR seen recently 185. Its more than 10% off for me (seen 184 recently when formula gives 165), while I know people who have varied 15% But you've tak...

Re: High Blood Pressure- More intense sessions?
The blood pressure machine is currently winging it's way to my abode courtesy of Bezos! My own GP said exactly the same that using the machine in the surgery actually adds to one's anxiety when getting tested. So it's increased meds and steady progress week on week in the hope that i can get a grip...

Re: ErgData "Workout Failed to Save"
What I'm finding for me anyway is if you set the PM5 up to do a specific distance or time, it will save the workout at the end. But if you try and save using the menu option ie: the three lines and "Save to Logbook" then it fails. I use ergData iOS. MOD: wouldn't it be better if the two threads abou...

Re: Polar H10 Trouble Connecting
Tsnor - you say the PM5 doesn’t remember the belt. With ErgData running I would always see the heart icon show on the PM5 without prompting it thru the connect menu. Then ErgData would display HR connection following. Not disputing what you say, just curious. Agree. I have the PM5 automatically con...

Re: Polar H10 Trouble Connecting
Last few days mine has not connected on its own. Had to use the connect function. No big deal, but it’s different. Thinking the is a software bug because it never happened until the latest SW was pushed.... Same here. Has to be a software bug. Since the latest iOS update, PM5 is not remembering my ...

Maybe you have a piece of styrofoam from the packaging stuck in the flywheel area.

Re: Unpopular Query - HRM/Activity Trackers
I've been erg'ing for a bit now with a Polar Verity Sense arm based HRM that I wear at the elbow end of my forearm. I'm thinking of getting something new as I keep rubbing it on my knee and the strap gets worn funny. This is my goto HRM. I wear mine on the upper right arm as high as I feel comforta...

Re: What is causing this clicking noise?
Rather than hoovering the flywheel it's more important to make sure the small holes in the flywheel housing mesh are not blocked. In my experience hoovering does not work for this alone. Very true. What I do is take the housing mesh off the flywheel. Go outside and hose it off then leave it in the ...

Re: Effect of heat on pace: down to which distance ?
It's not just the heat. Cooler weather can catch you out also. Now middle of winter where I live. Here especially, it's the humidity that knocks you for six not the heat. Did a session earlier on. 8,000m @ 2 watts per kilo, constant pace. Start 4:00am. Temp: 12°C. Humidity 100%. Windows on our house...

Vibram Five Fingers KSO EVO. Light weight, flexible and zero drop. With toe socks I find these ideal.
Have tried rowing barefoot. Couldn't get used to the heel movement, felt so uncomfortable.

Re: Technique review
My take is on the recovery you're bending your knees too early. There's some upward movement of the handle so as to get over them. In doing this motion you are not keeping your wrists straight. Wait until your hands are past your knees before bending them.
