Re: Forearm Pain
I spent some time researching and found the answer. The farmers this was named after were actually dairy farmers from the Netherlands. For whatever reason, after WW2, a lot of a Dutch dairy farmers took up rowing as a form of exercise after each season. The combination of rowing and the constant str...

Re: Forearm Pain
Hmmm. I was skeptical, but I spent a few minutes walking around with 40lb dumbells at my side. (I'm guessing just standing still would work as well.) At least temporarily, it feels a bit better. I may do that quite a few times through the day. Thanks for the suggestion. But, farmers walk? Is this so...

Re: Forearm Pain
I don't believe so...I average 5 rows per week and average about 7K per workout. As fate would have it, I am taking a 4 day break next week. We'll see if that helps. My drag is 116, so I don't think that's an issue. Thanks.

Forearm Pain
I have scrolled through previous posts on this topic. As a result, I've been (I believe) very careful about lightly gripping the bar. Perhaps when I start rowing with more intensity I grip harder? I have also attempted to not bend my elbows too early and have been trying to work ony form. Even so, I...

Re: Stroke Rate
I keep my force curve on my PM5 at all times. When I see it getting sloppy, I try to rectify it. I have a tendency to have a slight bump on the back side of the curve. Indicating, I assume, something off in my transfer from the drive to my release. Nothing like the peak of the curve, but still there...

Stroke Rate
I FEEL as if I have a better connection with the erg (more efficient I suppose) when my stroke rate is between 23 -25 than at a stroke rate between 18 - 21. Perhaps that is just pointing out that my form (for a reason unknown to me) is worse at the lower stroke rate. For that reason, I tend to maint...

Re: 2000metres - talenter or not?
Three or four days with a good coach....I think you'll be ready for the world championships.

Re: Tactic For Rowing a PB
Nick, that does seem aggessive to me but I'll give it a shot. I realize that a lot of this is mind over matter. I guess I need to find out just how strong my mind is AND my matter is. Thank you.

Re: Tactic For Rowing a PB
Thanks for that Tsnor. In my case, I do not know my max HR. I take blood pressure meds. I know that keeps my pressure artificially lower, but I don't know by how much. I use a Polar 10 chest strap and I don't believe I've ever even reached 140. I also think my age (67) limits my max HR somewhat. To ...

Re: Tactic For Rowing a PB
Thanks for everyone's advice. I will try different approaches. Tsnor, I assume a 95% effort is just a feel in terms of effort...vs hard and fast numbers. To be honest, except perhaps for my final 500m push, I don't think I ever get to 100% effort. I'm not sure I have the courage over a full time or ...

Re: 2000metres - talenter or not?
First time sitting down on an erg and row a 2K in the 95th percentile for your age? I'd say that's pretty good. You should go ahead and post that one in the rankings.

Tactic For Rowing a PB
I figure this is a sport where many of us basically compete with ourselves. Try to just be as good as we can be. That said, I want to be at least in the 70th to 75th percentile for my age group. I'm wondering how others approach an effort to improve their PB. I'll use a 5K as an example. Right now, ...

Drag Factor Questions
I'm a 67 year old relative rowing newbie. For the past 8 months or so I have enjoyed (semi enjoyed?) working at this new rowing journey. Occasionally I experiment with different drag factors. Several weeks ago I posted my best ( so far) 10K time with a 2:06.1 pace. I usually think in terms of pace v...

Re: gym motivation
I too am a believer in working out from home. But that's only possible, I suppose, if you have enough space. Besides my C2 row erg, I have a qualify bench (incline or flat) from Rep Fitness, and a set of dumbbells. Core makes a great all-in-one set that easily adjusts from 5 to 50 lbs each. The aver...

No problem Elizabeth. Nothing to be sorry about. I appreciate your input. This is as good a place as any to converse with Tsnor.
