Re: Newbie advice please
Just as a point of information, rib injury is somewhat common in rowing, I myself have suffered it, and if you search on it, you will fine plenty to confirm that it is not uncommon: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12392443/ https://worldrowing.com/2015/11/12/the-dynamics-rib-pain/ I think it essenti...

Re: How to make it easier?
Sometimes I find it helps to just fold up the monitor so you can't see the pace, and just settle in and listen to your body and row at whatever feels right, just let the body do its thing without the ego getting in the way.

Re: Rookie questions
Hi together, I recently (one week ago) bought a Concept2 RowErg and have a couple of questions. I can't seem to get enough power behind my drive, never get higher than around 70W with a drag factor around 125. Somehow at the start of my drive I do not seem to get any resistance on the chain, only h...

Re: Do I have any talent after 3 sessions?
Thank you all for the encouraging comments. I'm a very determined person. I will definitely do some studying. One thing I'm unsure of is which number on the foot plate I should pick. My shoe size is US 8.5 (EU 42). Guidance around that would be great from veterans like yourselves. Regarding the str...

Re: Low stroke rate training
Agree with Mike, better to avoid the pause at the finish unless you are doing a drill that calls for it. Rowing at 16spm is at the bottom of my range as well, but I will routinely fall into pretty easily if I'm just doing an easy SS and not paying much attention. College coach had us do a lot of 17s...

Re: SPM question
Thank you all. During my workout today I consciously slowed down and focused on my form. I was not utilizing my legs enough and trying to generate power through my upper body. I am going to work a lot more on the leg drive. I appreciate everyone's input. Try and row using an alternate power dominan...

Re: Newbie Questions
Welcome. No, people don't really pay attention to the weight adj pace, but people may ask for your weight and height to assess your pace given your size, more qualitatively. The damper controls how quickly the flywheel slows down, with higher damper slowing more quickly and giving a heavier feeling....

I'm having the same problem with Crazy split data in ErgData too. I just emailed C2 to see what they say. Let us know if you figured it out.

Re: 10K tips requested
Agree with Danger, don't overly focus on drive length, and at the catch you don't want to over-reach or over-compress, neither do you want to lean back too much at the finish. Drive length is a measure that is good to keep an eye on, but not the most important to maximize, as you need to stay strong...

Re: Ulnar Nerve Entrapment / Cubital Tunnel
Ampire, sorry to hear about your nerve issues, but glad things are getting better post op. I was wondering if you might think back and let me know when you first noticed warning signs in your elbow/arm what the first symptoms were and how the symptoms progressed. I have been feeling very slight/mild...

Re: 10K tips requested
The others have covered the basics: focus on improving form and technique on the long slow sessions, and work in some intervals. You are going at a nice rating, I try to keep in the 17-20 spm range for my 10K rows. Just keep your eye on power and length, which will come with time focusing on techniq...

Re: PM5 Custom List Annoyance
Hullo What is the point of the Custom List? Wouldn't you think you'd be able to easily save workouts into it? Have you seen the instructions? I do a 1minute once or twice a week, and can't save it. But the Custom list has a range of stupid options. I work in IT, and refuse to get a USB stick, copy ...

Re: Reached 5 million meters today!
Congrats! Great work. That's a daily average of a bit above 7km. After 6m with my C2 I'm only around 3km per day average, so I'm going to need to step it up! I totally agree that all you old timers doing laps around some of us youngsters is inspiring! I'm amazed at how fast many of the older posters...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
10k today, was aiming for more of a lighter cruise SS, but ego was on my back forcing me to put in extra effort to keep myself from creeping above 2:07 pace. It felt like a slog, which I'm chalking up to poor sleep combined with an 88F and humid day here in Hawaii, rowing at ambient temp with two fa...

Re: Rowing technique review
Echoing what the others have said, I would focus on the recovery first and how to prepare to be connected at the catch. At the finish, you want to get your hands away more quickly, and rock over on your hips with your torso into your forward position and then break the knees and begin moving forward...
