Re: EXR finally has racing mode (in public beta)!

You are always welcome!
Sounds good and look forward to it.

As expected I have had some minor surgery and have a 2-4 week recovery now (although 8 weeks worst case so fingers crossed not) then I can get back to it.

Re: EXR finally has racing mode (in public beta)!

I totally agree, although Henley has a weird length (i.e. 2112 meters) and is quite narrow (max 2 racing lanes). But Boston Head of the Charles is also not present (4702 meters) as an official race yet, although we have raced it as an event. My best guess is that they are looking for a straight lin...

Re: EXR finally has racing mode (in public beta)!

They are improving on a monthly basis. Sometimes new features, sometimes new maps. People can drop feature requests in their Discord channel, and slowly you see things being picked up. But they have quite ambitious goals: the International Olympic Committee and World Rowing used them to showcase wh...

Re: EXR finally has racing mode (in public beta)!

I'm on machine (Rower data) split, as I am extremely sceptical about EXR splits. They try to correct three things… Yes. The point really of my post. The reasoning sounds valid but the scepticism remains! And yes, like you there is an element of being negatively affected by this by being heavyweight...

Re: EXR finally has racing mode (in public beta)!

Bit of a thread resurrection rather than start a new one as feels relevant to the topic. I have finally got around to trying the 14 day trial after yet another period away and after initially struggling to motivate I have really enjoyed the trial so far and am pretty much going to continue with it. ...

Re: Row Along- The Grid

I have seen this pop up a few times on YouTube (probably because I've watched a few of Johns videos). First time I've read the full format though. Sounds appealing as I need some motivation at the minute. Have found myself stuck in a rut doing 30:00 & 45:00 sessions just plodding along, consciously ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I'm not surprised you're struggling Rob, and try not to let it dominate your thoughts. You will have taken a significant step back in form and fitness, but you'll also take significant progress when you rediscover your motivation. Mini goals are definitely the best option and focusing on being bett...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor

Imo, it's valuable to experiment with drag factor as it doesn't demean or gild your PB. It's all about what makes you the most efficient for your physiology. There was a rower on Instagram who was a big, strong lad, and he found his 2k pace, which was already around the 6:30 area, improved when he ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Nothing fancy here. Struggling a little to motivate, not just with the rower but in general. The second set back with my arm really knocked me. Really should stop breaking stuff! I can't get near my old 2K and 5K times, as poor as they were and was getting a bot discouraged. Figured a different goal...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor

Nothing to stop you doing "hard" workouts although some caution is required not to get carried away and allow the endorphins to hide the damage done... while no doctor, I would suspect that as londg as the maximum force is kep[t at a lower level then the workout should be fine. The workout intensit...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

…so I think it might be a HR belt issue, but I'm still keeping an eye on HR as it was a bit worrying. What HR strap are you using? I have recently had a load of issues with my Garmin HRM Pro just before it called it a day for good. Disconnects even with new batteries. Difficulty connecting to machi...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor

I tore my biceps over a year ago, still recovering. I also started at DF70 and I simply couldn't get the power in, even after a month of rowing. My conclusion was that I'm too heavy and sluggish to perform at that DF. DF80 was better, and DF90 was great for me. I instantly started breaking PR's. DF...

Re: EXR finally has racing mode (in public beta)!

I have the same experience with YouTube (and Netflix etc.). On EXR, I am happy with the default view, never got used to the POV, and cinematic mode is too fast for me. More useful opinion/experience. I think cost aside I will definitely trial it. Will wait until I have some time off work to make th...

Re: EXR finally has racing mode (in public beta)!

But I can imagine it is a pretty steep price to overcome. For me, this is the crux but then I am quite happy sticking a podcast on and just erging in my own little world. I have tried to watch YouTube etc whilst erging and it just didn’t work for me so I am assuming looking at the screen for anythi...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor

Not sure if this will add anything to the conversation but..! I’m struggling to come back from injury (broken elbow) and after a second layoff I am trying again but with a different mindset. I haven’t/hadn’t really thought about DF when I started out beyond reading online that men should be about 13...
