I also recommend ‘Beginner’s Pete Plan’ and to answer your other question regarding assessing your standard https://rowinglevel.com may be useful.

Re: Heart rate monitors
Another way to test if your strap has gone bad is to examine the HRV data in an app. I transmit all my HR data to Garmin Connect and from there to Runalyse. Runalyse shows a ‘Valid’ percentage for the HRV data. If it is high then the strap is OK, say >90% but if it is low, say <10%, then the strap i...

Re: New RowErg Concerns
I changed the bearings in the ends of the rollers to fully sealed bearings that are used on bicycles. Think I had got some sweat or debris in the originals after about 2m metres. However, on refitting I found the seat ran smoother by not fully tightening the nuts. It’s a while ago but I seem to reme...

Re: Polar H9 issues: displaying low heart rate and negative trending rate
I had a better draining issue with the H9. My conclusion was that the belt had failed causing a short between the positive and negative terminals. I sent it away under warranty and received a new belt. You can check the belt resistance; do a search on YouTube and you will find some guidance.

Re: PM4 with Android app?
I use Ergdata and a PM5 at the gym but at home I use Boatcoach with my PM4 in conjunction with a USB-B to USB-C cable to an Android phone. Boatcoach was developed by the same people that developed Ergdata. Just be sure to remove the logcard from the PM4. I also connect an old Garmin to the PM4 to lo...

Re: Running and rowing equivalents
I run and row and find rowing great for improving fitness.
One way to compare is to look at age-graded percentages for both sports.
For rowing scores worth having a look at the Nonathlon competition, which will give you a good indication of age graded rowing performance.

Re: RowAlong training plans?
I use Rowalong videos for rows 60 minutes and over. John has a great skill in being very fluent with a diverse subject range that makes the time pass very quickly. I would never have done a HM without him!

Re: Prep for 20 mile hike
A lot of hiking boot midsoles are made of polyurethane that suffers from hydrolysis and crumbles. So check the outsole & midsole very carefully because I’ve had several pairs fail. I have had them all repaired with an EVA midsole that will not fail in the same way. Nothing worse than hiking and suff...

Re: Seat problem - concept2 model D rower
Contact Concept 2, they will soon diagnose the issue. I had an issue that was technique related, which I realised before sending C2 film clips! My issue was not the same as yours. I was applying power too early and just before the catch leading to the pivot becoming unstable. C2 were excellent in ex...

Re: For those that have been frequent users of the erg, how has it benefited your life?
These days I am running more frequently than rowing, however, I find my running times improve with a mid-week row. I also think it’s a good idea to work other muscle groups to avoid injury from doing too much of one sport. Exercise definitely helps my weight, lost over 3 stone in the last decade or ...

Re: Seat noise despite following all reccomendations !
I have a model D and during hard sessions I was managing to move the pivot connection by putting power into the machine too early before the catch. C2 were very helpful in checking the machine via photos. It was during this process that I realised it was my technique and not a fault with the rower!

Re: Polar H9 issues: displaying low heart rate and negative trending rate
I’ve had very similar problems with my H9. I have returned it under warranty and a new strap seems to solve the problems. Before sending it back I used a multimeter to measure the resistance of the belt. From memory the resistance between the press stud and the chest pad is around 1500 Ohms. Moisten...

Re: Video on why pulling with Footstraps may be slowing you down
Great video that help me to row a 5k without straps for the first time. Will adopt this strategy going forward to try and improve technique along with some core strength exercises. I will also try a ‘Rowalong’ row from YouTube to see how it helps. Thank you to the OP.

Re: Bottom roller scraping on one side of monorail
I wonder if one of the bearings in the top seat roller has collapsed? These are R6 bearings that as standard are fitted with metal shields that are not fully sweat/dust tight. I recently replaced mine with R6 cycle wheel bearings fitted with rubber shields, thanks to the advice on this forum.

Re: Patella Tendonitis
I am in rehab for this at the moment. Worth looking at the Martin Koban’s website, he has researched this subject, collected evidence and published books. The exercise that helps me the most is one legged squats on an inclined step, facing downhill with the step at an angle of 25 degrees. 90 reps on...
