Re: Focus vs. Distraction
Nice thread, you read my mind today, I'll play. My First 6wks stared at the mirror from the side and 1/2 watched YT (Darkhorse or Training Tall) videos on form and how to program workouts and 1/2 focused hard on the PM data. No music first month, then added it when possible or not watching a video o...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
Appreciate the tip. i've been trying the 1-legged drills every other workout (due to laziness and available time) but they still feel awkward keeping the other parts of the form the same as an actual stroke. I like where you're going with this. Foot Stretcher placement thoughts? I know pushing horiz...

Re: One year on.
@TonyCook posts like this are what got me to buy a rower this year (>5yrs earnestly saving and wanting one) and take it 'serious' as a full workout, not just a warmup or burn out prior to limping out the gym with 10 bonus minutes 130+calories burned with poor (but not reckless) form ... no doubt hor...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
Almost posted this to the PB thread but think it drifts too much to be applicable. Posting here as relates to FORM and progression and Getting faster/Experimenation: Thanks @dangerscouse, and I appreciate nobody poking fun at my "reply" to the OP from 2006... yesterday I was trying to do too much to...

Re: Advice for Weekend Warrior
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfawH9NsTtI&ab_channel=ATHLEAN-X%E2%84%A2 speaking of Bands, AthleanX has actually been doing some videos lately, this one is on BACK and i do a few of these already for a good lat stretch pre-rowing/deadlift/squat. Bands take more creativity and mind/muscle connectio...

Re: Advice for Weekend Warrior
Again, mad respect for your levels JMM, sedentary job or not! Health and fitness, finally a topic I've got a few decades of knowledge and exp! When I was an admissions recruiter logging 15k/month (nowhere near your mileage) I found exercise bands can be very versatile and take up less space (not to ...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
Wow, I need to pay attention to that, GREAT catch. The shoulders seem to want to grab that tension early in the catch since I feel that first .3m doesn't have the resistance yet to pull against. I really need to get more leg drive, so I'll do as much leg focused pick drills as needed. I have a feeli...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
New Form Check Video. My forearms still seem to pull at an angle that makes my wrists bend and I'm working on that. No discomfort and I'm pulling to my sternum which feels natural, I'm sure that is 90% of my strokes for a 10K @2:02-07 pace and again it all feels fine during, after and the next day. ...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
Update- THANKS SOO MUCH FOR ALL THE TIPS and flow and support. The heel callous building is going well, I do my warmup strapless and barefoot and then have been doing intervals 3-4m on and 1m off to check in with the blister status and go strapped or add socks, and just reset my brain to stay focuse...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
Grazie James! I'll take down the videos, the "row longer and high hands, super fast hand release at the finish" were bad cues and not representative of how I rowed before and definitely the last 2hrs of rowing. In ~1wk I'll put out a new video once my back recovers from some heavy ice work this week...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
I got so pumped at the advice and suggested tweaks-- over my lunch break I stretched some more, did 10m of specific drills to try address your feedback, and then 30m of a Dark Horse Intervals video focused on 18, 20, 22, 24SR with drag of 180 and some other DF variables to experiment and get into a ...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
@hjs, so you mean strapless looks more 'forced' and less productive? I'm very much getting used to the bracing better and trying to make my strapless row <26 SR match my strapped but once I start comparing HR with Outputs and Power curves I'll know how much this is helping/hurting my growth. I used ...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
Thanks @flatbread, @mromero, @mict and all the others. here's a couple videos for form advice. did about 1minute strapless, then strapped in each. not the freshest since I've been shoveling snow/ice for 2hrs+ every day the last week and I'm just plain tuckered when it comes time to row. but my form ...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train
Once again, REALLY appreciate the BETA(rock climbing slang from my old forum days in the 2000s-10s). Mict- I did read the NOOB thread, and re-read it to see if i missed any strapless/shoeless tips. really appreciate you being thorough and helping me out. sorry if i missed this, where do you post a r...
