Re: Noob observations (C2 vs Skillrow)
Yeah, but do they mean Bluetooth FTMS here, or simply a new/different protocol? Don't know, but is a $600-$1000 garmin fenrix sports watch that cannot control fitness equipment viable? I was unpleasantly surprised that my $400 watch can't even extract cycling power data from the BTLE FTMS cycles do...

Re: Noob observations (C2 vs Skillrow)
Please note that FTMS is an absolutely horrible protocol for rowing. It is actually a step backward compared to ANT+ for data richness. In essence it is just a distance and speed report every 1 sec. The PM5 data is much much richer and also event-driven (i.e. report on the end of the drive and reco...

Re: Noob observations (C2 vs Skillrow)
Garmin hasn't made any announcement off this kind, at all. Not even a hint in the ANT+ phase-out press release. <warning, this is the google AI summary of Garmin announcements. It may be incorrect. I didn't cross check because it matched what I previously read. Emphasis is mine.> Garmin announced A...

Re: Noob observations (C2 vs Skillrow)
...Any idea whether I should choose Other activity on my GFR45? I'm going to see today what data is exportable from SkillRow and from the watch. You may be able to download "rowing" and "indoor rowing" as an activities on your FR 45. It was preloaded on my garmin FR 265. The app that loads activiti...

Re: calorie counter
No. Pace and Calories both include a time component. Agree. Pace is non-linear with power, so average pace does not tell you how much work was done. Agree. Calories, as I've noted, give you a bonus of 150 Cal/Hr just for time spent on the machine. So neither pace nor Calories is proportional to the...

Re: calorie counter
And that's the fallacy. Watts and splits show you exactly what power is put into the machine. A physical measurement. Measured rotations give you Computed Watts, Split and Calories. All are equally good measures of the output of your rowing on the flywheel, not what is put into the machine. One is ...

Re: calorie counter
This calorie stuff is the most useless metric on any erg. perhaps, but if watts and splits are OK then Calories are OK. There's a simple transform on watts to get Calories. ** Any insight you get from improving your watts can also be obtained by looking at changes in reported calories. ============...

Re: calorie counter
It's clearly wrong. Not sure if it's "uninstall ergdata, reinstall" or if it's "reset pm5" or "log had a bad day" Best is to email concept2 at info@concept2.com give snapshots, firmware version, ergdata version, say if it still happens or if it was only once. Aside: your PM5 has a history function t...

Re: PM5 ate my workout
I don't use a phone or Ergdata etc, btw, just a USB cable to the laptop. Understood. But try Ergdata. If you can make C2 utility mostly work then making Ergdata work is trivial. Ergdata records a lot of data that the PM5 displays then discards. It also records everything on a per-stroke basis so th...

Re: Noob observations (C2 vs Skillrow)
.. I think I'll continue to row like I am (4-5 times a week at 5k meters (2:20 splits at 18-20 s/m while working on form) for another month or so until looking at the beginning Pete's plan (unless there is a better option). Is this the way forward to get ready for Pete's? Re: HR monitor. Good info ...

Re: PM5 ate my workout
As an aside, I get this logbook errors message about once every couple of weeks or so. Could the PM5 be a little unwell, I wonder. Suggest you send a note to C2 with a cut/paste of the error message and let them tell you next steps. C2 utility is great for last-ditch-resort actions, but is not used...

Re: PM5 ate my workout
look in the history in the pm5. it might be there. if so make a manual entry for your log. The pm5 history gives you what the c2 utility would have uploaded, you just have to type it. When you eventually change to using a phone/tablet with ergdata to talk bluetooth to the pm5 you'll wish you did it ...

Re: Pete's Plan Spreadsheet
The flip side of that coin is, I wish non-elite/non-dedicated users could put themselves in the place of someone who has devoted a lifetime to improving performance (their own and those they coach), and empathize with how seriously we value our contributions and creations . .. As I think I made cle...

Re: Ergdata Update Notice
Anybody else get a false notice to update? I did yesterday and the C2 utility says I’m running most current, so no update. .. What software generated the false notice ? If Ergdata, then it should have also asked permission to update your firmware. C2 utility certainly can be used to update firmware...
