Re: Rotating chain
Many thanks, guys. Very helpful answers. Not really a worry, have you lubricated the chain ? also lubricate the swivel and the U bolt that connects to the handle via the bush. Indeed, I did lubricate the chain when first got the machine, and plan to do so again when reaching 50k that should be prett...

Rotating chain
Hello everyone, Just a quick question. I have been noticing that my Model D chain tends to rotate towards the left at the point of union with the swivel. I am attaching a few pictures that show this: https://imgur.com/a/nF1mj2r A - How the chain normally looks, especially after a workout B - Same as...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
J, I would not worry to much about pacing yet. Focus on technique and building a solid stroke. Better to start out relax and give yourself room to go faster. After a few weeks you will have a better idea about pacing. In general though, interval is done faster and at higher spm. Longer continues se...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
Hey guys, a question about pacing for the Beginner Pete Plan. I completed this week the first week of the plan. I wanted to take things pretty easy since this is my first time rowing, so I tried to be quite conscious in terms of technique, relaxation and efficiency. My first sessions were pretty co...

Re: Relationship between split time and stroke rate
If you keep a constant energy per stroke, and you increase the stroke rate, your power will increase. There should be no doubt about that. I have a feeling that some people refuse to accept the concept of energy per stroke, and consequently they give some quite confusing answers. (And for what it i...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
1:36 is decent early on. Just think that for you every session will bring about improvement in technique, and fitness - and you will get to feel rate and rhythm and power on the stroke and for each of those time comes off the pace. Your stats would be useful - age, height, weight. Sort of indicates...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
I am currently doing the Beginner Pete Plan (Week 1, first rowing ever, two sessions in) but, inspired by the other post in the Training section, I went today for a 500m test. It took me 1:36m. Seeing other people maintaining a faster pace for a much longer time seems incredible! Hoping to get there...

Re: Relationship between split time and stroke rate
I shouldn't worry about it. In rowing there are three engineering elements: 1 Stroke Length 2 Handle Force 3 Rating (spm). And one essential: style, which is what lets us put it all together. These three, multiplied together in the right units, = Watts. Based on your height some numbers can be sugg...

Re: Relationship between split time and stroke rate
Just out of curiosity, what exactly are you trying to figure out? Remember, as was stated above (and sticking with translation instead of rotation, because it's easier to understand) Work = Force x Distance Power = Work / unit time That and the knowledge that we're force-limited (which is one of th...

Re: Relationship between split time and stroke rate
Thanks both Sorry for not using the right units, I have a weak background in physics  So, as a conclusion, my understanding is that a similar force per stroke will produce a higher power (per stroke) readout at a higher stroke rate I tried it this morning. A few strokes at a 20 spm applying a ...

Re: Relationship between split time and stroke rate
No it does not. Simple physics: work = force * distance. The ergo is slightly different because there's a spinning flywheel (so we have to change to things like angular momemtum). http://eodg.atm.ox.ac.uk/user/dudhia/rowing/physics/ergometer.html#section4 There's something that I don't understand t...

Re: Relationship between split time and stroke rate
Thanks Jamesg, this clarifies a lot This means that stroke rate indeed affects the Wattage readout of the machine, which makes sense based on all the previous posts. If we keep the energy that we apply to the handle constant, a higher stroke rate will result in a higher power output (and therefore a...

Re: Relationship between split time and stroke rate
Hello guys, I have an additional question and I didn't want to start a new post only for it, so hopefully you can help me out with it here. Does anyone know how the instant measure of Power (Watts) that the PM monitor shows in each stroke is actually calculated by the Ergometer? Since Power = Energy...

Thanks guys, this is very helpful
@Allan: I had already figured it out, but it always helps seeing it written so clearly. Thanks again
