Re: Seat cushioning for Model D Rower
For the most part the butt gets used to the seat over time and padding becomes unnecessary, if you can tough it out long enough. I'm about as bony as can be (145 lbs at 5'10"), but got to the point of being able to do full marathons on the Model C and D without padding. That said, before I got to t...

Re: Seat cushioning for Model D Rower
I don't recall wearing shorts when rowing in my concept2 Model D. I've just been wearing my everyday pants, which are convertible cargo pants (i.e. I can zip off just above the knees to make them into shorts, which I've only done a time or two, playing golf). Received both the cushions I ordered a f...

Seat cushioning for Model D Rower
Don't know if this is the best forum, there are many here, but it says this is a good place to start if you don't know. I've had my Model D (bought new) for a year, used it some, gotten some chops with it, checked out some good videos, gotten some good guidance here. However, my go to aerobic workou...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I'm a total newbie, had my Model D Rower a few weeks, have been mostly quad skating the street daily 6 miles while the weather lasts. But today was too dark with clouds to be safe, so did 10 minutes on the C2, PB. Now, I'm 77 male: 22.5s/min Ave: 2:39.8m/500m I was pretty tuckered out after 10 minut...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
I wouldn't be surprised if in your effort to protect your shoulder you wind up shooting the slide. This would lead to a very weak and ineffective drive. You need to "hang" onto the bar as you start your drive. Shoulders, arms and hands relaxed with your core engaged while you start your drive with ...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
Whoops! Did another session yesterday. Heat wave here, and it was evening, I was ready for dinner (hungry) but figured I either did a session or none for the day and I went upstairs for a short session, with no new thoughts, having watched no videos for at least a few hours, just see how I'd do, wit...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
I'm going to do a session now, my first of the day and a repeat of my last, the minimum damper setting for 10 minutes, incremental decreases of ~5 seconds/500m for eacg 1 minute interval with 1/2 minute paddling between each interval. My last and first use of this exercise was great but I want some...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
Thanks for the tips. Will work with/on them. I just watched a video that will help me a lot. I've been seeing experts in the videos getting their feet out of the rower in 1/2 a second and wonder how they are doing that. Having never seen anyone in person use the Concept2 rower, I had no clue. This g...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
My first minute was at about 3:10/500m, last at 2:40/500m IIRC. Went really well Mazel tov! Now you're rowing. Soon, you'll be close to 2 mins for your SS sessions. And under 2 for your interval work. Well done! Thank you! Yeah, if my shoulder holds up, sometimes I feel like I'm getting a little cr...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
The video recommended by Mitchel is another excellent one to develop more speed/power in your leg drive. I think you mean this one: Using low Damper setting to improve leg drive and timing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiQ0Mqlk_Lo&t=4s I have that one bookmarked and did watch it a couple days ago...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
So, at the lower stroke rate the speed wasn't fantastic: Average: 318.6m/500m I'm going to watch all those videos posted in this thread. Thank you!!! I did watch one amazing video yesterday before doing this session in the evening, which is a to-me incredible routine for beginners, expertly execute...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
Yesterday did 10 minutes averaging 3:34/500m, so something. Today, 10 minutes averaging 2:56.8 m/500m. Wow! Good job! So, evening, before dinner, did a 2nd session yesterday. After watching some videos, which gave me insight into how I can achieve lower stroke rates without sacrificing boat speed. ...

Re: Concept2 Model D Rower -- HR monitoring
Thanks for the replies! I will pursue the info. Did a followup session this morning, 10:00 minutes exactly. Lowered the resistance to 4 before starting. Strategy in mind was to get maximum chain retraction/extension while developing a rhythm and some semblance of form. I felt I was getting somewhere...
