Nice one dave, that is one of my aims. Really nice to dip below 1.30 I bet. What was your drag?
Thanks! I was on a PM3 monitor so only had a quick look after my warm up on “display drag factor”. It was low 140s for the couple of quick test strokes I pulled.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Managed to get over a nice benchmark today. First time sub 1:30 for 500m. Wasn’t even planning on trying but didn’t know what else to do on my lunch break! Felt ok doing a warm up with some quick bursts so gave it a go after a few stretches. 1.8s off my previous best. Actually feel like a could go a...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I did my favourite intervals today 500m/1:00r. I was just aiming to match my previous effort doing these a month or so ago of 6 sets with average of 1:44.2 After 6 i managed to convince myself to get a 7th interval out and still managed to hold my average, 0.1s better than planned. 1:44.1 average fo...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Failed to beat my 2km PB last time I tried a couple of weeks ago, almost HD that day, limping home about 10 seconds off a PB. Today was different though. I dug deep and knocked 0.4 off last Septembers time Very good Dave, I'm sure you've answered this before, but what else do you do for cross train...

Re: How fast/hard to go on intervals

Just gave the same intervals another go. This time I told myself to aim for 1:40.5 but as usual once I started I wanted to make sure I was slightly below that. Much happier with today’s effort anyway. I failed miserably at a 2k PB attempt the other day so this was a nice confidence boost to dig deep...

Re: How fast/hard to go on intervals

5k is good prep for 2k. See the Interactive plans; you may not even need to do much more than the last four weeks. Obviously interval paces are faster the shorter, since the idea of short work is to train high rate speed; low rate speed must already be in place at this stage of training. You'll nee...

Re: How fast/hard to go on intervals

Just to offer the opposite view :P - I'm a fan of static rests, indeed I have to to recover if I'm going hard. I've tried active rests and I'm slower. On pace, don't over think it. You tried @ 1:40 and had to bail at 7, but you did the right thing in completing the 10. What was the average pace acr...

Re: How fast/hard to go on intervals

Question: Your ‘on’ was at 1:40. What was your ‘off’ at? If the ‘off’ was too hard it would hurt repeatability. My rest minute is literally a rest minute. I paddle to a gradual stop after about 10 to 15 seconds and hopefully watch my HR come down! Occasionally I continue paddling but mostly put the...

Re: How fast/hard to go on intervals

Yes you did go too hard, but it's trial and error for what works. Slow it down by one second and see how that feels. I assume that will fairly comfortably get you through to the end, but then give the last rep all you've got. Following that you can make a more informed decision as to what the right...

How fast/hard to go on intervals

Morning all, Last night I did some intervals 1:00 on/1:00 rest. I found it pretty tough but it got me wondering. Did I go too hard? I wanted to complete at least 10 intervals but managed 7 and a half at my goal pace of 1:40 before I ran out of steam. I still completed 10 but the last 3 much slower. ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I trimmed my 10k down to something approximating a representative time. I punched in 45 minutes as the session to be rowed, but as usual, started accelerating through the row and thought that I might as well try for a 36 minute 10k as that fits very neatly into the 9 minute intervals. But I kept ac...
